The problem I see is that most urban sewage plants have no space to expand.

tree-planting challenge

1) Every tree on Earth constitutes one (1) world forest equivalent ( wfe).
2) Global annual Fossil-fuel combustion-related carbon emissions equal 15- wfe.
3) A forest fire, large enough to generate an equivalent amount of carbon would be larger than the entire surface area of Earth, including all the oceans.
4) In order to just balance the annual carbon load going into the atmosphere from fossil-fuels would require planting enough trees to cover more surface area than Earth's, every year. ( 1.6-Earth surface areas ).
5) A rather asinine proposition, although the mathematic requirement.
6) Power requirements for #4 would be provided photosynthetically, at no cost. Although there'd be no provision for any other life on the planet.
7) So have fun with your carbon sequestration and tree-planting. It makes perfect sense in a Chicago School of Economics Universe.

Yeah so it's probably a good idea to shoot that CO2 down an oil well for a lot of reasons.
It's a good excuse to build pipe lines which creates jobs, less oil to buy from over seas, fewer wells to drill, uses less water.
A win, win, win, win situation, but I'm sure biden will figure out a way to screw it up.

Perhaps.
Maybe, first, the oil lobby should step up to the plate, and pay for the one-million abandoned oil wells in the USA, which will have to be paid for by US taxpayers, in order to properly cap, and pull the steel out of. Abandoned offshore platforms?
Then we could talk about future Superfund sites from pipelines.

Well it's pretty clear overall that the current way of things isn't sustainable. Gas is finite and clearly a problem to burn. Yes, batteries and current technology produce a lot of harmful pollutants as well and they aren't able to take up the mantle, but if we actually put funding into some of this stuff perhaps we could innovate our way out of this mess.

How many aircraft carriers does it take to start solving the world's problems. Is it ten? 'Cause that's how many we have.

What about F-35's? How many F-35's will it take to start reducing greenhouse gas emissions or cleaning up spent fuel rods STILL laying in a concrete trench at Hanford?

Ah well. Humanity's boned, in my opinion, which is one of the multitude of reasons I didn't create more humans.

Then with batteries there will be abandoned brining operations.
The problem of spent nuclear fuel being stashed all over the place is a purely political one. The problem of how to recycle and dispose of concentrated waste isotopes had already been solved by scientists and engineers, then politicians got involved and left us with the worst possible plan imaginable which was a decade of no waste recycling and leaving raw spent fuel, which is the most dangerous of conditions to pile up in temporary storage.

I read Utopia or Oblivion: Prospects for Humanity when it came out in 1973. All I can say is my brother's catch-phrase "Life's been good to me so far."

The political problem being that you can't make weapons grade materials with a Thorium reaction cycle. Just eat the waste.

Thorium for space travel, because you can ignite on reaching orbit using acceleration, similar to SpaceX's orbital refueling strategy.
