Economist! (from North Western UK)

North Western UK economy hobbyist. I fell across this web site and like it. I drive a 2008 Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDi 100hp, Ive had it for a few weeks and love it. My average economy has been 50mpg knocking around, and 60mpg on a run. Would be nice to talk to people in the Uk that have an interest in this stuff too....

Welcome to the site. That's UK gallons you refer to, yes? ... and there are some UK people on the site. And some others from various countries on the Continent. Hope they pipe up.

If you want easy conversions of your UK mpg to US and to L/100km start a fuel log, which shows the different calculations simultaneously.

What mods have you done or are you contemplating?

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

Thanks for your reply! It is imperial mpg that I was referring to.... i keep a log with Fuelly...will have to port it over. I have some modest plans for the car. I have had an interest in economy driving for a long time, but never joined a website. Looking at the projects on here rings a bell with what I have been thinking about for a long time. Reading about the Dutch dude that has faired in the 125 Honda scooter was pretty inspiring.

For my car I have already changed the wheels and tyres for something more in keeping with my economical aspirations, today I started experimenting with blocking some of the grills. I am most likely gojng to increase the tyre pressures further and take off the passenger mirror. I will make an undertray to cover the underside of the car, most likely from aluminium. The kammback spoiler idea is intriguing but I have to read a bit more about that before committing!
