Chevy cruze 1.4, ford fiesta 1.0, newish mazda 3 or 6. Heck, my acccord v6 6 speed is a pretty efficient road trip car!
+1 for bike idea.

I already have an 07 cbr1000rr. I can only use it 5 months a year so it is not at all practical.
the cruze has similar running costs to the vett but it looks bad
the fiesta is a pain in the ass to fix when something goes wrong(and costs the same as a c5 vett
mazda 3 or 6 are expensive(not worth the money)
the accord is a good choice but its just a more expensive civic

The most fun and possibly most economical and practical car I've owned was a 1996 Subaru Legacy. It never needed any work (except plugs and wires), got about 28 MPG, and could go anywhere. I did a ton of sleeping in the back, sometimes with a girlfriend. It was finally retired at 240,000 miles after being rear-ended.

If i have a big contract i need to secure by driving 2000km in -40c on icy roads i wounldnt trust a beat up old car. The rebuild car is a good idea. I know I can get hot girls without a nice car, but i can get more with a nice car.
i looked on the yaris forums and apparently 40 mpg is normal with eco driving and 45mpg is rare and hard. 35mpg is easy in a vette and 40mpg is eco driving. Based on that im ruling out the yaris.

It seems like you want us to tell you to get the Corvette. So if that's what you really want, get it. But is it the the right car for driving 2000km in -40c on icy roads? How many hot girls does it take to push a Vette out of a ditch?

With winter tires the corvette would make the trip easily as long as the driver is sensible. At least hot girls would help me in a vett. When a beater inevitably brakes down(if it can even start in those conditions) no one will push me out a ditch.
I dont want to be told to get a corvette, I want to hear all the options, over the next 5+ years people will come to this thread for advice and im sure they want to know a few efficient, reliable, roadtrip cars. I dont want to drive a gas guzzler(i can afford it) for many reasons, but i know there are lots of really good cars out there that are Reliable, easy to work on, good value, and efficient. So far the list goes:
Honda Fit: 45mpg(realistic mpg number i could get)
Honda accord: 40mpg
C5 Corvette: 38mpg
If i chuck some 150,000km tires on the vette for $1300 they will last the car as long as i have it. So basically if i put down double what the fit costs their running costs will be similar.(oil change is near the same price, most parts on the vett are surprisingly cheap, the clutch is actually cheaper than the fits)
If i can sleep in an mx5(done it) then i can sleep in a much larger corvette.

Convert a Vette of your choice to a diesel and it too will likely get 40+ mpg non-hypermiling
A mid 90's roadmaster with a stick and a high rear gear ratio would also go over 40mpg
A Gen 1 insight will get 60mpg + all day long
A Caddy ELR goes 40+ miles electrically and is the ultimate in comfort for 2 people.
Many think it's a thing of beauty and the ultimate show of I have money, used examples are relatively cheap

You asking a bunch of Ecomodders to help you choose between a Yaris, a Fit and a Corvette is maxing out my troll-o-meter
Get to the punchline quick, bro. I get bored too easy to keep scrolling through this ridiculous thread much longer, even with the randomly placed eye candy
