It's not the best engine design in terms of making power - that's for sure. It's supposed to be an efficiency design, basically.

BTW, is that Cossie based on the 2.3 liter? (Pinto/Mustang engines)

It looks a lot like the engine that my old pit-boss used in his dirt track cars.

It's Based on a english ford Kent block, was never in a pinto or a mustang as was anything that looked like it. I don't know what a Cossie is, in racing circles we don't call it a Cosworth, just a BDA which is a size/application designation 1600cc's Formula Atlantic, there are many others; BDD, BDH,BDX,BDJ,BDM, each one has a size and an application. Very good reliable engine. For the pump drive that you see there are diffrent diameters and or teeth to slow or speed up the pump so that it doesn't cavitate depending a RPM rquirements. For instance the BDA's top rpm is 9500, the little BDJ is 1100cc's and spins at 12,000rpm so a larger pully is used. this way we can adapt these for this electric motor drive we are speaking of.

Wow. You learn something every day! I just haven't had the opportunity to delve into timing belt/chain stuff, other than replacement. Since I didn't get into the racing side, except for some occasional drag racing, I didn't know there were different pulley sizes for timing belt-related stuff, and so on. Underdrive v and micro-v crank pulleys and so forth, yeah, but then all of the racing I've done is small-block Chevy stuff...

I like the idea of bypassing the P/S pump, too. I'll try that on my donor if it has P/S. Cheaper than even buying a salvage non-P/S rack or gearbox!

Well, I knew that I didn't know everything when I joined here. What I didn't know was what I didn't know...
