Y'all are hilarious. You realize Tesla struggled to market even with a $400M government loan and their first mule cost something like $20M, right?

Tesla was a moonshot luxury sportscar with a newly invented powertrain. Elio is a trike with a roof. Their mule only cost as much as they wanted it to cost.

Just saw my first TV ad for Elio on ESPN News. Seemed about 30 sec ad showing car price 6,800.00 (HOW!) and the 84mpg. COuld not hear it as I was in sports bar. But it really suprising to see a TV ad, thaey are moving forward.

Heck, the Elio probably has under 2000 parts in their BOM, probably less parts to build the whole car than tesla takes to assemble a battery module.
Add to this as soon as elio produces a car that meets the MPG and cost metric their party is over as the demand probably isn't there.

Price. The Polaris Slingshot list is about $20,000. Polaris is play company (m-cycles s-mobiles atvs ect) and usually has the 3x price rule for parts and products.
20,000/3 = 6,666.
Still cant figure how Elio can sell it for 6,800. It is a slingshot with a roof, door air conditioning and extra safety items - airbags.

Retaining structural rigidity keeping the roof is actually easier than in an open-top. No wonder convertible cars are usually more expensive than their hardtop counterparts.

I read the PT Cruiser convertible was made as a hard top, then converted, but they could not charge customers for all of that, so they lost money on every one they sold.
That additional structural rigidity also makes convertibles weigh more than hard tops.

I remember there was a prototype named Pronto Cruiser that looked like a hardtop 2-door PT Cruiser would.
