I calculated on my 16 mile trip to work I EOC for 2 ~miles. I have a 3 ~.5 mile coast that add up quickly and 3-4 city coast around ~.2-.3 miles.

I get about 3-4 miles of EOC in a 25 mile round trip, depending on how I hit the lights. Lots of traffic lights and a few bridges I can coast down. I could do more but I tend to just feather the throttle on the long straight sections.

I live on a hill, so i can usually EOC almost a half mile on the way out, everytime. And on the way home i can usually get almost a full mile everytime, but i don't really do it with the kids in the car, and don't really drive much without them.

That reminds me of a question I've been wanting to ask here about EOC: should I wait until the engine is warmed up? I have a downhill run from my driveway to the intersection of my street & the nearby major road -- almost a mile. I have to start up to get rolling, then I can EOC almost all of the way, but I'm delaying the warm-up of the engine. Can anyone think of a reason why I should wait until the engine is warm to EOC?

i know how much EOC adds to fuel economy, maybe next tank I'll try backroads, EOCing as much as possible the entire way home.. ill need to stop and start more often but then I wont have gobs of cars lined up behind me.. If my crx was a odb2 i could easly justify it but I'm carbed so it tank by tank.. Supose i could do it with my truck one day just to see on the scangauge whats more efficient and by how much?

MPGs are way down untill its warmed up, so EOC might be a way to warm it up gradually without burrning to much fuel in the process. Or it could just prolonge the agony, but i hope not.

Without traffic, i can pulse up to about 43 and glide down to about 35. Fifth really bogs like hell below 35, so any less and i think that might be prohibitive. Like that i can glide for more than half the TIME, but distance is another story (going slower longer?). But like i said i've never done more then an eighth the tank like that. RPMs at 1400 to 2000.

According to the SuperMID, which shows the percentage of time that the ICE is on, I'm ranging from having the ICE on over 90% of the time when driving on flat rural roads to less than 50% when negotiating the urban traffic light and stop sign maze.

basjoos - just to clarify: does the MID show % by time, or % by distance?
