If you haven't been over in the Fossil Fuel Free Forum of Ecomodder, you may not know user MPaulHolmes.
He was featured as
builder of one of the 3 Cheap Electric Cars that are on Ecomodder.
As a teacher who knew NOTHING ABOUT CARS, he none-the-less went for it anyways.
Now he's at it again. This time designing an Open Source EV Motor Controller.
One of the most expensive parts on an electric car is the controller. If a person was able to build a higher-voltage controller himself, it could greatly reduce the cost of a reliable, practical, electric vehicle.
Paul has already built a mini-version, and a larger version to run an electric bicycle. Next up is working on the full-size and power version.
Unfortunately, Paul is now limited on both time (school is coming back in session) and money.
While we can't help Paul with time, I think that together, we can do pretty good on the money.
When I got a speeding ticket in my electric car, I was amazed how many people stepped forward to financially contribute to help with the ticket. (It cost MORE than all six batteries that power the car!)
In the spirit of paying it forward, I have already contributed to the new 144V OPEN SOURCE MOTOR CONTROLLER PROJECT.
If you wish to support Electric Vehicles, if you would like to build your own 144 volts of fury, IF YOU HAVE EVERY DARED TO DREAM: Please support this project.
Contributions can currently be made through my blog, with the DONATE button at the top right.
Green Cars: Videos and More!
(Donations go directly to Paul, the donation button is a direct link to the "Give money to Paul" section of PayPal)
Estimate total cost of parts for this project is around $350. I think we can really help get this ball rolling
[Moderators: does anyone know how to copy the code from my blog into an Ecomodder Post to make a "donate" button here? I couldn't figure it out.]
PST: Don't tell Paul. This is a surprise.
Paul, if you are reading this, I don't mean to embarrass you. But you DESERVE support on this. Thanks for all your hard work!
