That means if you have to ask for the price, you can't afford it. So I'm sure that the final price on the conversation is far from economical.

In the advertising it says it's $6,500. I mentioned that. But no, I don't think I could pay that today.

Ouch that's kind of steep.
Just think if you could come up with a better solution for less money.

Since electric vehicles are horrible at retaining value maybe you could fine one for sale that has already had the 48kw conversation done to it for about the same price as a normal one.
I don't know if they do a lot of these conversations.
I also think that wouldn't be a bad option if say you find a cheap leaf with a dead or weak pack, take it to these guys.

Next time, make sure you don't inform him right off the bat that you're not planning on buying.

I didn't think I did. After all, I said I was an owner of a 2013 Nissan Leaf and that I was interested in having them do the conversion to it. But anyhow, I think the real reason is because it is only an added 24kWh battery and that would reduce the weight I can carry to about 200lbs. Which means I'd have to lose about 5lbs just to drive myself around. And that is likely an answer they didn't want to say.

There's a 2011 Nissan Leaf traction battery for sell on eBay for $2,900 obo with $200 flat rate shipping. Again, I asked a question, (if they knew how many miles or battery condition bars the battery had) and of course didn't get a response.

I'm still thinking torwards getting another Nissan Leaf battery on a trailer. 150 mile range would be enough.

But thinking of something else, if I did throw on a generator trailer, it seems that a standby generator would be much cheaper than a portable one.

The Honda 7000EU starts at about $4,500 and only puts out about 5,000W

This one is already converted to run on propane, can put out 6,000W continuous, and only costs $1,700.

Generac 6519 PowerPact™ 7kW Home Standby Generator System 50-Amp 8-Circuit ATS

It's a thought anyhow.

I would want to use something like my 922cc V-twin 30hp 26kw surge 17.5kw running. That way it could provide most of the needed drive power and level 2 charging while going down the road.

I have compared inverter generators to fixed speed and found the inverters have almost no fuel savings above half load compared to direct drive counter parts with the same rating. Nearing full load inverters some times do worse on fuel. Inverter generators beat direct drive at low use.

Also that 5kw generator is likely only going to be able to make around 4kw continously.
I have heavily modified my generators to get near full output continuously. Consumer and contractor generators are only designed to run at around 80% continously. All can hold a 100 to 110% load but will burn up in short order.
