It's got the squinty windows like a Camaro (prolly won't make production), will likely have good performance; and, if you crunch the numbers, would probably only cost $8000 via reduced operating costs.

I have 2 Insights, one of each transmission. How do you you guys handle the registration and insurance costs? I had to unregister the mt so I could take it off insurance. I bought it so I could learn stick in the summer. Otherwise i'd spend 20% of what bought it for just to store it in my garage during the winter. Cheap cars man

In my State any vehicle 20 years old or older can qualify for collector plates which don't require annual tabs, and the one-time plate fee is reasonable. Almost everything I have qualifies. However you have to declare a "primary" vehicle that is subject to annual tabs- no way is anyone going to get out of driving around without paying every year. That's fine, I get it.

I don't drive all of them all the time. Luckily my insurance company allows me to suspend policies for quite some time before I either have to re-activate or cancel, which is no big deal. So the ones I drive get insured but basically only in blocs of time when I'm using them. I declared the F150 to be my "primary"- the one that has continuous coverage, as for some reason it is dirt cheap, far cheaper than my little cars. The others then come and go as they will.

I'm not sure, but in MA, any car that is registered needs to be insured. Even if i'm not going to drive it. It's $60 to get it registered for 2 years. So anything longer than 2 months of storage and it becomes worth it to unregister it and take it off insurance for the season.

I personally own 2 vehicles (if you count my motorcycle) but there is a total of 5 cars and 2 motorcycles at my house.
In order of fuel efficiency:
1990 Honda cbr600f
1983 Kawasaki KZ1100
2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse
2001 Pontiac Grand Prix
1995 Chevy Astro
1997 Chevy S-10
and a 97 F150, but we don't drive it so its actual fuel economy is unknown.

I've seen a few sports car owners do that in MA. One guy with a really
old fully restored Vet.. Nice ride.. I never saw it out on the road.
Just sitting in his garage.. Like my RAV4..

Ont insurance

Ontario has "historic" plates - but I think their legal use is very restrictive - permitting travel to/from car shows & other events, and for maintenance -- that kind of thing.

Insurance in Ontario is super expensive. Just basic liability is ~$600 a year for one inexpensive vehicle. So I just switch coverage from vehicle to vehicle. I can't remember the last time I had two vehicles covered at the same time.

I mentioned to my insurance co that I am thinking of getting a 3rd car (ha - that is, a 3rd car that would have insurance on it) and whether they cared if I am switching coverage every 4 months or so. They said switching between 3 vehicles is pretty much the limit - if I get another one, they'd want me to have additional coverage.

So there's a good limiting factor on future hoarding, anyway!

Talking

Guilty, Guilty, GUILTY as charged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopeless!!!!!!!!!!
1987 CRX DX
2 1987 CRX HF's (all CRX's drivable, both HF's for sale!)
1985 K10 diesel Suburban
1986 C20 gas Suburban
1984 VW Quantum wagon slowly converted from gas to diesel
1983 VW Quantum wagon nice every day driver
2016 enclosed car trailer can hold 2 CRX's
1983 Honda Silverwing 650 full dresser.
found 2 months ago..couldn't say no!!
It is a project '82 Dodge Rampage front wheel drive
mini El Camino w stick. Idea is to put VW 1.6 Diesel in it,
and to build different front ends to look like any cool 60's or '70's
car! First idea: 1970 Cuda truck. $240.00 was the cost.
I know I am hopeless!!! I am looking to buy land soon.
Latest thing in my head? Low dollar yard cars (non running
yard ornaments!!) tribute of Mario Andretti's '67 Daytona winning Fairlane, Dan Gurney's '65 Galaxie, a mid '80's Dale E Wrangler Monte Carlo, something appropriate
honoring #24 Jeff Gordon. Once a year, these would be all loaded up, and shown on a big car carrier trailer to be pulled by a cool classic truck down main street of Vancouver, WA. as that town has a cruise in every year that TAKES OVER downtown!!!
I've got it bad!!!! No lack of ideas...just time and money! (old foes!)

PS. besides the motorcycle, I just have basic min. insurance on 3 vehicles at a time. When I want to change up a little, a quick phone, and things are switched easily, and
for free! In total, I may pay about $850.00 a year for insurance. Cars/ motorcycles
registration is about $64.00 a year, trailers less. One time fee plates for 25+year old vehicles applicable to all but having 1 other primary vehicle.

*bump*

I can always count on these threads to make me feel better about the vehicles I own, but don't drive much.

1967 VW Beetle -- nice to drive, but has rocker/floor issues
1974 VW Thing -- torn apart for resto someday
1996 Subaru Outback -- main driver, great in winter
