I can't think of anything sweeter than the Type III convertible. Else early prototypes.

A Zwitter was produced from October 52 to around mid-53. You can tell its a zwitter because it has the split rear windshield but the dash is that of an oval window car (instead of the dual gloveboxs of a regular split). Also has a lot of other Zwitter only parts. Pretty rare cars and parts are hard to get since

I was thinking last night that even at my age, I could pull and do a top end on the Superbeetle engine, if I could get someone else to reach the top engine mounting bolts. That's all that keeps it off the road. I should be able [to get a shop] to pull the Type III swing axles off my five-speed transaxle and put it in the Superbeetle. The stock engine could really use a five-speed.

Top should have only two issues, at least for me: some idjiot got too excited torquing the driver side and rounded the nut requiring a 6 point shorty socket. The other one for me: passenger side needs a long combo wrench and my wife to place the combo wrench on the nut. If I can't see it, my fingers lie to me. You can barely see the drivers side.

Dont need to do the lowers until it's raised enough to drop it, about 2 1/2 -3 ft depending on doghouse. Some can pull the doghouse, I can't, there two screws on the backside holding it on.

I've been following at Rods for Africa for a while. He's dropping a Renault 4CV body onto a Beetle chassis. This episode covers the lubes and sealants in assembling a swing axle.

A replica 356 is the only thing attainable these days.

This is fiberglass with an aluminium tonneau and wind split. The shift knob is Balsa wood! The foot pedals are dimple died. The weight is ~1300 LB

It's mostly interview, they never show the engine or even talk about the sway bars, so one is free to speculate.

I'd want a 3/4 tonneau and since it's fiberglass, a slot in the cowl so the windshield would roll down. With skirts instead of flares, the frontal area would be approximately the rectangle around the front tires -- but shaped like a half-bar of hand soap.

This would take a 25-50 MPG Beetle to 100 MPG. And that's before the electric front axle between Rabbit axles (Superbeetle struts and 75 or later rack and pinion?) in front to make a through-the-road hybrid.

Washburn Shows How To Build A Perfect Shortened 356/Manx-Type VW Pan

Some things I learned:

• Washburn Metals shop floor is amazing.
• New, shortened pan halves from England for $800
• If the Meyers Manx were 1 3/8ths inches longer, the same chassis would fit the 356 replicas.
