First Chevy Volt to 200,000 miles

200k miles since 2012, wow. Even more impressive than that is that 72,000 miles of those were EV miles. That is a lot of charging.

First Chevy Volt To 200,000 Miles

Quote:
Erick Belmer is the proud owner of a 2012 Volt,

As Belmer tells InsideEVs, the Volt was purchased on March 28, 2012. Since then, it’s seen a daily commute of 220 miles there and back, with a single longest trip of 430 miles in a day.

Oil changes come every 38,000 miles and tire rotations every 10,000 miles. That’s basically all the maintenance that’s been required on Belmer’s Volt.

Didn't follow links beyond the main story, but I have to wonder about the sanity of anyone who does a 4+ hour commute every day, for more than two years.

Just for comparison, my 2000 Insight is still a bit over 18K away from the 200K mark, and has averaged 71.2 mpg for the 130K miles since I bought it.

The "serpentine belt" is a single belt between two pulleys. There is no hydraulic pump or alternator and the A/C is electric.

The GM maintenance schedule makes no mention of replacing a timing belt.

It figures. If you follow the link, the first comment that comes up boast the standard plug in hybrid "lie" fuel efficiency that measures the total miles only versus the gas used with no regard for the electricity that was also used. He boasts 61 mpgUS when the true combined MPG was 40 and MPGe was 50. So the MPG from the gas engine was really only 36 which is quite typical for the Volt. Of course he also boasts someone elses Volt that is sitting at a lifetime of 153 "liePG".

How much did the 72,000 in EV mode cost? What about the 128,000 using gas?

Here are his voltstats info: (system won't let me post the url)

His MPG(cs) is 39.2 mpg. This is the miles driven with the gas engine running divided by the gallons used. (I find this to be a bit pessimistic compared to the numbers calculated for my own car.)

So, (128000/39.2) x $/gal = total cost of gasoline.

Electric range is 25 - 45 miles per 10 kWh used. At most, one takes 12 kWh out of the wall to get this. Pick your poison, but I'm about $0.03 / mile for electric use.
