So, now, who has a source of accurate 3-D meshes of vehicles? It is no easy task to model one's vehicle, not to mention getting the boundary conditions correct...

You could start with the models here:
3D CAD Browser - 3D Models Catalog - Vehicles - Cars - Page 1
Or try asking your car's manufacturer for the CAD file for the external body. They most likely won't give it to you, but as the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I've tried twice now, but the site doesn't seem to be working. I've waited half an hour both times, but it just says "waiting" in the status bar. Anyone else getting this to work in Firefox 3?

What are the stats on your bitmap (# of colors, x*y pixel dimensions)? How many seconds is your submission? With a 2-bit, 256*128 pixel bitmap, I have found that I can't go much beyond 40 seconds. I have gotten a few 80 second runs to work, but it's totally hit and miss.
I am using Firefox 2.0.0.16 right now. If you have IE, give it a chance and see what happens.

Bitmap is 256x128 @ 2-bit, Re=2500000, dt=0.01, sec=30, cutoff=40
Tried it in IE, same thing. Maybe its my office network or maybe its a server issue at the moment. I'll try it again from home tonight.
That is, unless someone wants to process this:

Those are the same settings I use. I just tried it with your image but I got a network error. I agree that it's best to try again at home. I had a lot of failures last Saturday, but I just kept resubmitting until it worked.

I have! I have traded several friendly emails with him, and mentioned this thread to him, and he seemed interested. Hopefully if he isn't too busy he will drop by...

stormbird - wow!
pasadena_commut - double wow!
this is getting cooler all the time
there is a lot of potential there - I am defiantly interested trying this out
but you know it took me a while to get flow illustrator to work
and I'm sure it still has a lot left to teach me
3D CFD - that is potentially months of learning
may have to wait for the cold and dark of winter to give that proper attention
but I hope someone here tries to get one of these combos to work that has the skills to bend it to their will.
this is potentially another thread or two or three...

I tried this thing several times both last night and tonight after reading the thread. Last night I was able to download the video but my computer wouldn't play it. Once i got the correct "codec" to play it, the video was blank. Tonight it won't even download no matter how long I wait. I ever prepared a nice BMP.
