Excellent info. Thanks. I incorporated all the changes into this. I used Re number of 3,000,000 to simulate a 1.6m car at ~72 mph

The actual image I uploaded is a bit bigger.

Image looks good, but the site says the dimensions need to be a power of two, not a multiple of two. Your image is 800x400, powers of two in that range are 256, 512, 1024. You could increase the size to 1024x512, but smaller images process much more quickly. Maybe try 512x256? The image I made for you was 512x128.

The 800x400 image worked! Thanks again for your help.

I saw the weirnermobile 2 days ago crossing the GG bridge!

Volvo 850 with ghetto airdam. You can see the air under the car slow down compared to the air over the car. Probably good for down force, not so good for drag.

I'm happy to see you don't need to black it all out, gives it a more realistic aspect..
I've never been able to get this to work for me...

If anyones bored I've always been curious about my old truck..

This was the only truck I've owned that I can say for certain that removing the tailgate made a difference..

back in my speedin days it would max out at 89mph
Now with the tailgate removed it would go to 94mph..
what would ya expect from a 65hp trucklet
both tests were on a dead calm day back to back within 25 minutes of each other..

i don't think the simulation on the weinermobile is very accurate as it's likely air merges in the wake at the rear below the weiner, not that it would suddenly become more aerodynamic but it would make a difference.

it's one of the downsides of this program that it shows the flow only along the center axis of the vehicle and doesn't take into account the full 3d body, with air comming of the side etc.

for example a tatra with it's tailfin would look almost as boxy as the volvo in side profile.

so while a simulation on a boxy vehicle like the volvo might be pretty close to reality it won't be for more complex shapes.

just a thought though, i really like this program especially it's ease of use, but what would be really nice is an open source 3d flow visualiser, it could be equally "artistic", but imagine the revolution if things like airdams and spoilers, and vg's could be tested to determin an aproximate idial size and placeing before we'd do on road testing!

and I was all set to start my weinermobile aero mods

as for 3d flow - wish granted - post #90 & #91
we just have to figure out how to make them work

When I first found this forum, I began looking for something like this. I made a sized silhouette of a 2006 Honda Civic sedan (4dr) if someone who already wants to know how to do this, would like to see how a fairly aerodynamic late-model sedan would perform.

With all the 1st person shooter games out there ... and they've been around for well over a decade ... a similar 3D simulation would be easy. However, there is not much of a demand for this kind of software. Real aerodynamacists (sp?) require something much more complex.
