Hey guys didn't read the entire post so sorry if I repeat something already posted.
Re = (rho*V*[reference length])/nu ...:: I know its hard finding these values.
I can't remember off the top of my head each value.
A Re of 8,000,000 is driving my Honda Fit at 70 mph on a 70ş day at sealevel.
rho/nu = 5943 ...:: IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.
Just multiply this number times your velocity (**FT/S**) and your total car length (FT).
Don't be worried of very high numbers. 5,000,000 is acceptable. 5000 is not. 50,000,000 and you've either got a very long car or are hauling some serious butt!
Or try asking your car's manufacturer for the CAD file for the external body. They most likely won't give it to you, but as the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Hello everybody. I'm trying to study as well as I can the aerodynamics of a Civic of VIII generation, but I didn't reach satisfactory results.
Here you are what I got from flow illustrator:
I've been looking for freeware 3D meshing and post-processing softwares for days; I tried all the programs listed in cfd-online and I visited also a variety of other websites. No way, nothing was satisfactory or Windows compatible. I neither want to spend thousands of dollars/euro to buy a program like Fluent.
Can someone give me a hint on a freeware software capable to give even only a basic 3D grid generation and one for a satisfactory CFD post-processing?
The issue with the videos is that they are AVI's encoded with WMV3 which is the format for Windows Media Player 9. Took me the better part of an hour just to be able to grab a frame to do side by side comparisons.
From all the googling I did on that, it doesn't look like there's much to help out the Mac peoples. Since the codec's a bit old, there might be something you guys can use. HERE's a thread from 2005 on the subject.
Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? "Needs BMP"
The image you posted is in the JPEG format (extension *.jpeg or *.jpg), it should be BMP (ext. *.bmp). I don't have an editor under this system, but here is how to change the file type.
Open the JPEG file in an editor (Photoshop, GIMP, Picture it, maybe something simpler),
open the 'File' menu,
click 'Save as',
in the new window open the 'Save as type' menu,
pick the bitmap (*.bmp) option,
save.

to incorporate the 'mirror effect' caused by the ground effect, I model using a partial 'reflection' as below:
I don't think it's a critical difference, but I know that this was done in wind tunnel tests back in the thirties (2 wind tunnel models attached at the tires to model the 'mirror effect')
Hey, I am having trouble wit hthe program I cant get any "movie" to work if its larger than 1300kb in size if it creates anything at all. My image is small but adding time to the movie makes the file too big. Anyone else have this trouble? I have included two images here. These are much larger than the ones I was using in case anyone has some free time that wants to help me out since I cant get this thing to work. My computer wiz son tried it on his computer on a different network than me and he is having the same issues.
Thanks in advance for any tips or movies.
