I was in getting some warranty work done a couple weeks ago and I was standing in the dealership parking lot checking out a 2012 Fiesta with the SFE package. I wondered how the belly pan looked, so I leaned over to look underneath. I had my head almost under the bumper before I realized that the engine was running. They were plowing the lot so they had started most of the cars so they could move them.

They certainly are nice little cars. I put on a little over 18K in the last six months and I'm still very pleased with mine.

This one is a 2011, production date 11/10. It has 3771 miles on it right now. It is waiting for the State Police Inspector to sign off the repairs so they can get the title and sell it to me. I think the auto hatch is about 16-17 new so I'm happy with it at $10k and it helps my friends. They can't keep cars on the lot, sell them as fast as they can fix them.

I am hoping I can get it to average in the low to mid 40S for mileage. That would put it between here Sorento and the bikes. If gas gets crazy we can just leave the Sorento in the garage and drive the Fiesta everywhere we need to go and she could drive it to work, while I ride one of the bikes as long as weather permits.

The inspector came by today to sign off another of their cars. He did not have the paperwork on the Fiesta with him but he told them he would try to get it done as soon as possible, maybe by Friday.

regards

We think of them as a good, cheap, little car but they have a lot of head room and the seat / eye height above the ground is not that low. I think they are a good CAR that happens to be cheap. Let's see how long the body lasts. That is always the unknown.

They finally got it inspected today. My buddy followed me home driving the Fiesta so I could take my bike home and go back and drive the Fiesta home after lunch. Total price out the door was $10,312 with 300 in tax and the rest title and tag fees. I drove it back from my house at 70 MPH and it was averaging 44 MPG after we put $20 in gas on their company credit card. Taking it back tomorrow for a new state inspection, and we are done.

I filled it up on the way home and reset the fuel economy but forgot to reset the trip odometer, so I might fill it up again and set the trip before trying to figure out the mileage. Based on the dash reading right now after about 50 miles and one cold start, it is averaging 44 MPG.

Both my friend and I agreed it would be easy to get a speeding ticket in that car. It rides and handles great. The low tires pressure warning was on so I filled the tires to 40 PSI and it still rides nice. The tires had probably not been checked in a year and they were all in the mid to high 20s and it still got 45 MPG at 65-70 MPH, but that was measured from a moving and already warm reset.

The paint color is Magenta Pearl clear coat. It has steel wheels and plastic hubcaps, might have to get some Moon wheel covers for it.

Very nice mileage. The Fiesta is the best deal on wheels right now. Next to the CBR250R A very nice driving car that also happens to be cheap and really good on gas.

OldMechanic,

If you have questions specific to the car drop in to Fiesta Faction: The Ford Fiesta Enthusiast Community Forum It is a good forum with plenty of good info on the car.

Also don't drive the car like a regular automatic. It is an electronically shifted manual and learns how you drive for about 2,000 miles. If it is shifting at high revs then it has already learned to shift that way. You may need to visit a stealership to get it put back into learning mode.

Enjoy it.

Edit: make a fuel log and join team Ford.

Already a member, just haven't posted anything yet. The transmission seems to be fine. I just need to get the RPM in each gear pegged for best mileage. It seems like the best strategy is to get it in 4th gear quickly then get your speed up to where you want it. The wife's 2012 Sorento has a similar 6 speed dual clutch transmission, so I have a slight head start on the technique. My 98 Mercedes SLK had a learning logic in the transmission ECU that adjusted shift points based on the drivers technique.

I was surprised at the RPMs at 65 MPH, right at 2500. Ford must be doing something with the cam timing to tweak the BSFC at those revs to get 44 MPG at that speed.
I might have to get a tank of 91 octane ethanol free gas to see if it can hit 50 MPG.

I have a 2012 Fiesta 5-sp hatchback and love it. I'm getting 45+ MPG just by driving habits. I know other are getting over 50 MPG, never happen with my commute. But it seems to be a good little car.

Took a little drive this morning to get some E0 gas. 45.5 MPG in the Fiesta for 180 miles on just under 4 gallons. Saw a peak of 53 MPG coming home on Route 17 through Gloucester. This is the 6 speed automated manual. It seems that the car likes to shift about 3k RPM for decent acceleration, lower in the higher gears 4-5-6. The mileage actually is better at 65-70 than it is below 40 at steady speeds.

I did try some stealth P&G. This is where I accelerate very gradually to about 5 above my average, then very gradually decelerate to about 2 below. The cycle takes about 35-45 seconds and it seems to be working with the FE pushing 50 MPG at 55 MPH.

On the Interstate at 65-70 (PSL 70) it looks like about 43-44 MPG average. The factory FE gauge seems to be very close based on a single fill, will see how that averages out.

372 miles
181 distance to empty
47.4 MPG
12 gallon tank
Saw gas today at $3.999 per gallon at many stations. This little Fiesta is the perfect gap filler between her Sorento and my 2011 CBR 250 R. At these gas prices she can drive the Fiesta and leave the Sorento in the garage, while I ride the CBR250R (weather permitting) and get close to 85 MPG with her getting close to 45 MPG in the Fiesta.
That puts our average mileage at 65 MPG for both of us.

Mech
