Switching from longitudinal engine to transverse might not be rocket-science, and would make it easier to provide such solution even to a full-size American truck. Or in a relatively smaller class, the drivetrain of a Rav4 hybrid into a Tacoma.

I'm sure you're not the only one. BTW recently there are rumors about Toyota eventually going to make hybrid versions of the Hilux, so maybe it could also apply to the Tacoma, yet I wouldn't hold my breath for any body-on-frame Toyota truck to switch from longitudinal engine and either RWD or 4WD to transverse engine and either FWD or e-AWD, even though maybe it could lead to greater economics of scale somehow.

Toyota is revealing the 2022 Tundra today (19-September). It is supposedly getting a hybrid version. Considering the Tundra and Tacoma share the same platform a hybrid Tacoma would be logical.

This video shows the differences well between the top Maverick and the $20,000 one. I like the $20,000 one just fine. I'm sure at some point they will offer AWD on the less expensive hybrid, but I also think the FWD will get along fine on everything but off roading.

If there would be a demand from the biggest fleet customers, a hybrid AWD would be easier to justify from a marketing standpoint.

Even though FWD is not so great for it, I have already seen some trucklets going OK on mild off-roading.

Apparently 83% of Maverick orders have been for the fwd hybrid
That explains why Ford cancelled 100,000 hybrid orders considering they only want to build 25% hybrid’s.
They should have never allowed factory orders and just sent what they want to dealers.
Their idea of only preorders that they don’t want to make is a total disaster

Do you think they underestimated the demand, or purposely limited supply to drive sales of more profitable vehicles, or some other explanation I'm not thinking of?
It's possible they couldn't secure more units from their suppliers to make more hybrids.
JSH would know more about this, but I imagine suppliers need to know a couple years in advance what volume is required, and that would tend to lock in the maximum units.
As I've said long ago, all vehicles should be hybrid at minimum by now. Those with a garage should have a plug-in hybrid. The RAV4 Prime can be charged on a standard outlet, yet deliver 40 miles of EV range and 40 MPG in hybrid mode, with 300 horsepower. That is just 1 example of what all vehicles could be capable of now.

Ford actually changed the Maverick pricing so the hybrid is now more than the turbo. I think all of them are over $25k now. I'm interested to see where the little Dodge Rampage comes in and with what.
