ok did some digging i was mistaken.
the 5.7L diesel was sold 78 to 85
78 to 80 in the trucks and 78/85 in the cars.
1982 was the first 6.2L year, so theres no way its a 5.7L

Cat wants some love
It'll be interesting to see what you can get from that Tempo.

The thought crossed my mind! But, I have the engine on Craigslist for sale. We'll see if I get the $350 for it. Want to use the money from the IROC and parting the truck out to fund the Tempo project.

I'm the kind that would fix it and keep it instead of pocketing only $1000.

Got the transmission back in and bolted together. Made a detent cable bracket out of a Mr Gasket throttle / trans linkage kit. Has the right amount of positioning for shifting. Got a new center link for the steering and some new sway bar links put in. Topped off the fluids, cleaned it up and it's ready to go. Didn't get the Tempo in the garage yet. Wanted to make sure there weren't going to be any other cars that needed the garage space. Hopefully on my next two days off (wed & thurs) I'll be able to get it running. Need to get the Chevy truck shell cut up and hauled to the recyclers. Sold a 200R4 tranny I had sitting around for $150 today. After all the parts and misc stuff I put on the Z-28 I got @$1200 in it. Want to make at least $1k on it for all the work I've done.
