which gauge would suit me... nissan note
i have just got a nissan note, and i would like a mpg guage for it....
having never had anything new enough to have an obd2 port i know not much about my options, and searching google and here didnt help much
i want one that will give me real time mpg feedback so i can tell how to improve my driving, coasting in gear vs rolling in neutral .... for example
ive also never had a new enough car to be clever enough to not use fuel when coasting.... anyhow
is the scanguage 2 any better really then the scanguage e... im sure it does more things but... well i dont know what they are
or the ultraguage.... or something else......
my car is a 2012 nissan note 1.4 petrol and i would like a fitted devise rather then a bluetooth thing and an app

The Ultragauge costs less, but the ScanGaugeII provides more useful information, especially handy if maximum MPG is you goal.

The SG2 provides a bit more info (can display 4 gauges at once), but I think I prefer the SGe for its "progress graph" that does a live chart, updated every minute, of your fuel economy relative to your average since last reset. Customizable too (you can set the graph's midpoint to be a goal, and I think the time per bar is customizable).
I find the graph to be very motivating.

Coast in gear if you want to decelerate. Engine braking with fuel cut-off. RPM has to be above about 1200 RPM for fuel cut-off to work.
Use neutral if you're trying to maximize your coasting distance. Much longer coasts than you will get in gear = less fuel used prior to going to N.

Just a note, the UG and SCII both show all the regular OBD2 info, but the SCII can be programmed with x-gauges to show more. How much more depends on the car. Some (most?) don't have any extra gauges, some have a couple like transmission temperature or EGT, while hybrids have a whole list of extras (battery SOC, amps, motor temps, etc).
For most regular gas cars, I would recommend the UG over the SCII because it's cheaper, has a bigger and (in my opinion) better screen, and can show pretty much everything the average car is capable of showing. Heck, I even use a UG in my Prius (I have a cable for my laptop that I can use to check the hybrid stuff if needed). If you have a car that has x-gauges available that matter to you, then the SCII can make a lot of sense. Their customer service is also top notch (never had to deal with UG's). I've never used a SGe.

does anyone know if the sg can have up on the screen
instant mpg
average... that i can reset at any time, so i cant tell for driving style over 10 min or whatever intervals
and average for the tank
all at the same time

Yes you can do that with the SG2. I think you have to program the tank value to be accessible on the "gauges" screen. It's not hard to do - the instructions are on SG's site.
The SGe doesn't have this ability (to program additional gauges).

I've never personally tried the Scangauge E, but it appears to have all the same trip computers built in like the SG2. It might work for you. Here is the link to the manual. You can reset the current trip on the fly and use it to check short distances. You just may not be able to see it along with the instant mpg on the same screen

I was going to buy a SG-E and give it a try but decided to just move my SG2 over to Tinkertoy. If I was buying again I think I would buy the SG-E. Personally, I find I really only focus on instant MPG and maybe load. Looks like you can scroll through different gauges easier than on the SG2.
I love my SG2 though. It's not without its flaws, but very helpful. Not sure where you are, but in Canada, the SG-E work out cheaper than the UG. Ultimately you pick the one that you think will do what you want. Don't blame you for wanting a dedicated gauge instead of a Bluetooth one, much more convenient.
