You don't have to add weight to prevent rust. As long as you know where the rust prone areas are, simply oiling or rust treating inside those spots will keep it from turning to swiss cheese. The problem spots on the Metros are well known (and the pics in this thread and on metroxfi.com make it clear where to squirt the oil).

Coyote: awesome! Congrats on getting it done for the show. Looking forward to your fuel log results, of course.

Just got back from having an exhaust put on the car. It is very quiet now and I will soon be able to actually start driving it again. I noticed the EGT was reading 1600 degrees at 60mph so I figure the small pipe I was using was bad for it, the 2 inch pipe that is on it now doesn't have that problem. It runs at 1000 degrees cruising and 1200 wide open.

After I got home I rounded up all the bathroom scales I could find so I could weigh the car. with a scale under each back tire and 2 on each of the front tires it seemed pretty accurate. I could get in the car and the scales would increase showing my weight so I figure the numbers are pretty good. It came out to 1510lbs with a full tank of gas and everything in the car like it would normally be driven. I could have made it much lighter by going to thinner metal but for something that has to last for years of abuse I didn't want to use anything except structural steel.

So over the summer very little has been done to the car. I aligned it a few weeks ago, put the glass drivers window in, moved the battery to the trunk, and today got an exhaust on it.

The last work needing done is to get the wiring and other junk under the floor secured down better and seal up the gaps and add a few bits of bracing here and there. The car is perfectly drivable now but I will probably wait and do those last few details this weekend and start driving it local before slowly spreading out and driving it long distance.

And I bet everyone thought I gave up on this car after building it
