well today i got a front belly pan installed. I took it for a test drive and it slid slightly and melted to my cat converter....

So that got me thinking beings the coroplast is close to the oil pan and tranny should i have to worry about it melting to those. Should I cover it with something in those areas or should it be fine?

Have you read any of the other threads on belly pans?
In the one(link #2) in my signature I spent a great deal of time giving advise and insight......
One comment had to do w/ not underestimating the effect of the air stream.....to your point about movement.....

There are several pictures on how to reduce heat......and as a note.....it touched your cat......of course it would melt....it touched.

Please look at the links and then ask your questions. ok

I had been looking at other threads before i posted and they all seem to talk about openings for the exhaust. Yes i realized it touched the cat, i even had a hole cut out for it but it seems that the hole was not large enough to count for slight movement of the pan.

Also i cant believe i forgot about your threads. I went through and read through yours twice just to make sure not to miss anything. It seems that you said one piece warped, but for what you replaced it with did not seem to cover the oil pan. Some others i saw covered the entire engine bay so it was that wonder if it would be fine or if they covered the section between coroplast and motor

The yellow piece that warped in the front was a a piece of 'foam board' (but stiffer and thicker than retail) It was on clearance and was yellow.
In retrospect, coroplast is really the best product.

Since you have seen the pics, let me answer some thoughts.
I have never had a heat problem with my current setup which has now been in place a couple of years.
I have had minor 'adhersion' or mounting problems which I have ackowledged. The moving air is pretty forceful and can peel up coners and edged. It can also 'move' coroplast if not anchored well.

I had my front piece completely blown out by the air coming thru that lower opening. I hadnt achored the back edge well enough and it blew it out befor i got past 40mph
I have found that there is plenty of air moving between the engine parts and the coroplast. As long as your not touching your good. I try to keep the coroplast about 1 inch away from exhaust parts and have never had a problem.
Sreening helps disapate the heat.

Best of luck.
PM if you want to ask any specific questions.

Well it came off about 20 miles into my drive yesterday, almost made it home. Couldn't have went better for coming off only 2 of the 6 mounts came off so it just more kept bouncing between the road and the underside and was able to pull completely off the road to take it off. Making new metal mounts already have mounts for the rear of the pan now i just gotta figure out a system for the front

I got all of the new mounting locations figured out, but have to wait til i can put it back up on ramps so i can get underneath it to do, now when every1 says to use a lift when doing there belly pan I can completely agree to now.

I also got started on a windshield wiper deflector today

I also rolled over 111,111 miles this tank

Any new updates? Do you happen to have a side picture of the car with the wiper deflector? Curious about that, that was going to be my next mod on the Neon if I kept it.

Took a quick look at your fuel log and it looks like steady improvements on each tank, nice work! That's definitely not easy as winter gets closer.

well my FE is starting to go down havent posted my last 2 fills and bout to do another fill up today.

I ditched the front belly pan idea and plan to use that sheet to hopefully make rear wheel skirts and front arch gap fillers.

my plan this week is to get a cardboard mockup of a kammback. The plan for the kamm is to have 1 piece sit on the rear window to allow the trunk to fully open still this is where it will be attached to the car. Then place a hinge in the middle to allow another piece to flip up off the trunk for access to it as i don't have fold down seats.

I have a sideview of the deflector, and its since been painted black i will put it on with black duct tape probably over winter break if i get a warm enough day to do it.

EDIT: I filled today got just under 27mpg so at least im sticking to my average, checked tires dis morning and the cold caused em to lose 7psi each so that was a probable cause of not getting 27 =)
Fuel Log is updated now
