Darin,
That trailer is the X-Prize method for measuring performance, though I don't know the specifics.

@Sendler, I agree that the people should fill at the pump after the competition and that is why our team also filled at the pump even though we were running Bio-Diesel. It was exciting watching the people get that instant satisfaction on the fuel economy.

Is bio diesel very different in use than pump diesel or is it specifically used just to add the recycling aspect to the equation.

@Sendler, Diesel can be used in any vehicle that runs Bio-Diesel, there is a eco component to using Bio-Diesel and the satisfaction of sticking it to "The Man" by making your own fuel from something that would normally be thrown away (waste vegetable oil or in our case bacon drippings). We have also made glycerine soap from what is left over from the Bio-Diesel chemical process, another plus.

Do you get about the same mileage between the two?

It is about the same, the only problems occur when the temperature is cooler.

A few % would be fine ...
Mine often reads over 10% LOW (in Liter / 100km, so reads higher MPG).
I think I'll ship it over for next year's event

Gasoline Fumes,
Nice pics! Thanks for posting them!
That's my gray Civic with the Kamm back / roof extension and the flat wheel covers.
I scored 62 mpg on my MPGuino, came in 1st in Class (2M).
Been flat out ever since the GGP, haven't had time to log in here and say anything.
Was a great event.
Yes the GGP still has issues trying to measure fuel used. A few of us think the GGP should get a sponsor to loan the use of some super accurate scales for that purpose. Undoubtedly very expensive to buy, especially if you only use them once/year for a non-profit venture. But if they can get scales accurate to an ounce or so each (4 per car) the total possible error wouldn't be too bad.
Gasoline weighs 6.073 lb/gallon (but varies with temperature).
If a car uses 1 gallon to drive the GGP and you want to discern between cars you need to detect a difference of maybe 1/20 gallon between cars.
To detect 1/20 gallon:
6.073 pounds/20 = .3037 pounds * 16 = 4.86 ounces
