I've often wondered about that temp sensor. I'd like to know more about how it's used.

Re: your intake. Isn't it behind the upper opening? Would it not be easier and more efficient to duct air from that? Maybe i'm missing something, correct me if i'm wrong! (EDIT, i just read your other thread. Scrub that statement i just made!)

Re: the lower grille block. My old grille mesh was clipped on from behind the bumper and was easy to push off. Then i cut some small pieces of coroplast and cut slots in them so they would push onto the existing hooks that the original grille mesh clipped onto. Then i made my grille block to the shape of the grille opening and screwed it to the coroplast. The whole thing is rock steady and all i need to do is find some better looking screws.

Re-reading my manuals, I might be wrong. I assumed that there's only 1 air temperature sensor, but in fact there are 2. The airflow meter has one in there - I think it's more likely that the engine would make the decision on the time the glowplugs are used based on that, not the environmental temperature sensor. Or even possibily the coolant temperature sensor. Or even the fuel temperature sensor. Or the ECU is wetting its finger and then sticking it up in the air.

All I know for sure is that the ECU uses a temperature sensor to make the decision, but I don't know which. It's just that the temperature sensor was called "environmental temperature sensor" which caused me to jump to conclusions.

The work's van was quite battered and have seen better days despite having only 40,000 miles on the clock and 3 years old, it's probably just worn out or have a different fault.

I'm going to retract everything I said about temperature sensors as I have found that I know less than I originally thought. Sorry about this!
