hmm, after a bit more digging it turns out I might be able to get all the parts to build a 4bt for about 3k. Interesting...plus the parts would be new.....

That sounds pretty reasonable. A 4bt is a common enough engine that the parts aren't hard to come by, and they're a common one for SUV and small pickup truck conversions.
