I did a write up back in 2009 about my dual purpose performance/fuel mileage Del Sol on D-Series.org. It went over really well!!! Over 37k views and almost 400 responses. Lots of positive feed back and it inspired the younger tuner community to start building their cars for fuel mileage also.

In my first post I said "why not have your cake and eat it too"??? This made them realize I wasn't there to change them from modifying their cars for performance, but while most were doing some type of FE mod already why not start thinking outside the box and try to do more FE mods also???

For me I get more negative responses from FE forums then performance forums. Including this one in the beginning and even to this day I feel I don't belong here? There is a strange click between both types of car enthusiasts? lol

This is why I'm extremely happy with F1 this year. Starting this Sunday F1 introduces the Hybrid power units that are only allowed 100 kg an hour of fuel flow. The average F1 fan can't stand the idea that F1 now has went after fuel efficiency to bring in more OEM manufacturers to the table. Even though these new F1 cars could be more powerful and faster then last years car???

Hopefully F1 will fix this disconnect between the two types of car enthusiasts.

A car like that shouldn't leave the factory without a flat underside..

I love driving fast. I just have to laugh at the cartoonish spoiler crowd mocking real aeromods. I also have no time for people who can't understand that efficiency is performance too.

In a car where a 400 mile tank is not generally considered attainable, a 500+ tank draws some hate. Hilarity ensues, and the mods move it from the performance section to the "what did you do with your 4th gen today?" section.
I remember reading your thread when I first got the sti. kinda knew this was going to happen, that's why I tried to "hide" the mods by taking darkish pictures. I wasn't trying to start a flame war in this forum, I just wanted to share a few pics of the car taken with my new dslr camera.

Now I'm thinking I should post up a pic of my in dash mpg gauge showing 29.1mpg to see what happens. But I won't because I'm mature now.

Your del sol was the inspirationof a lot of my mods when I was building my old del sol. But then you get too hardcore into ecu mapping and ecu tuning that it just blows over my head , lol.

The guy that kept talking about his A/F gauge was the funniest. He probably has a $10 narrow band sensor installed in a gauge pod on his A-pillar.

Make sure to let them know that your car is still a 300hp rally beast, but instead of 20 MPG you get 30 MPG. If they want to be best friends with the oil companies then fine, but whats wrong with having the best of both worlds?

On Mustang Evolution, I get the same thing. People who are "aerodynamic experts" and claim to know everything- then claim a Mustang has a terminal velocity of 120 mph (must be why they've governed it at 113, and the drive shafts break around 135...or that a less aerodynamic version breaks 200 mph).

Not trying to hijack, just agreeing. People who are meeting something they A) don't comprehend, B) can't achieve themselves, or C) can't just throw money at to accomplish will act out this way. I had a guy bet my $1,000 I can't get over 44 mpg in my Mustang.

What's going to be funny when I get it (+46 w/o trying hard), is that he will either be paying me, or using that cash to get back to Ohio from North Carolina. I hope someone bets you, too! (It won't be me, I know not to challenge you lol)

Getting 46mpg on the sti is still a pipe dream...and you're not even trying that hard! I'm busting out all of the eco tricks and I'm barely breaking 27mpg. Therefore, I won't challenge you!

I am mostly done and at 46 instead of 29- you are still building and developing, and are beating 30 instead of 23, so you're not too far off % wise, and have plenty of room still. I meant challenge as in calling shenanigans, every car and driver is going to be different.

And although you do have some limiting factors involved, I think that is attainable. I thought the best I would ever do was 35, then 37, then 38, then I broke 40, and it slowly keeps going up lol.
