If people are buying fewer of them, sure. (Used ones, anyway.)

I remember when gas prices spiked in '08, people were paying stupidly high numbers for worn out Geo Metros and gen. 1 Honda Insights.

I had the bright idea of getting a moped or small scooter. Did the math, for my 14 mile round trip commute I would need to go 10 thousand miles to just break even. 715 days of riding it, or almost 2 years rain or shine and not counting any maintenance, tags, tax, repairs, etc.

I know many say for the insight, "its made of aluminum" for the price reason.

Not sure what the geo has going for it in regards to price hikes during the hikes in fuel prices.

Supply & demand. How about the highest combined EPA rating for a non-hybrid?

Excellent MPG per dollar of purchase price?

(At least at the time of the last fuel price shock.)

I, for one, haven't gotten over the Pope declaring a Crusade against the good people of the Southwest of France.

We paid $2.639 today to fill the wifes Sorento. She wanted to drive 10 miles further to get it for $2.549 but I forgot to take the west exit on I64 to the Richmond airport area.
I tried to explain that it does not make sense to drive that far for a total savings of 72 cents but even after 25 years marriage (11-4 anniversary) it still can be hard to make a rational argument, even when it costs her 10 cents a mile.

regards
mech

I've been pondering going the opposite direction... A fun car that I've wanted for a decade is finally getting near my price range. With a big V8, the high gas prices were pulling the price of the car down. I may need to wait for gas prices to come back up to get the cost of the car down where I want it.

I figure feeding it won't be as bad for me as it is for most owners, and I can probably get better mileage than typical drivers in cars with engines half the size.

Can't be...

We were told that the reason for high prices during the last decade was because we had reached "peak oil" and that all known oil reserves were in decline.

Does that mean that we were lied to for the sake of short term profits...???

They wouldn't do that,

would they...???
