All it needs are rear fender skirts and a black vinyl bra.

The Accord hybird gets 49mg combined on gas with its 2.0L engine. The Clarity's engine is derived from the Accords, but downsized to 1.5L (paired with the same electric motor). It gets 42mpg combined on gasoline.

It costs more, looks worse, has a smaller engine, and gets worse fuel economy?

And when it's ugly and underperforms its direct contenders, maybe even if it had been offered at a heavy discount there would be a chance of failure. Comparing it to the Prius and the Fusion Hybrid, it's very unlikely for the Clarity to become sucessful.

The Clarity goes nearly 50 miles on a charge though, so only the Volt beats it on range. Combined power output is 212 HP, which is quite powerful. It does look hideous, but it's priced lower than its rivals and has way more features. The interior looks upscale.

For $26,000 after federal credit, you get a car that goes 50 miles on a charge, has over 200 HP, and has advanced features such as adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.

Fixed it for you, it’s a big car, you look at the inside of the car most of the time so those looking for a bigger car the Clarity PHEV fits.

Now the Clarity hydrogen or EV are total compliance cars but the plug in hybrid is quite compelling

Those rear wheel arches are definitely right out of the 1980s.
