I'm an hvac journeyman $30/hr. Trouble is there's no work in any of the Po-dunk little towns by me. Gotta go one hour West to Iowa civilization, or one hour East to Illinois civilization. Mostly corn fields in between.

For $15/hr, I guess I could stay local and be a "sandwich artist" or something!

Smartass... (just kidding!) If you can do all your work by telecommunication, and don't have to drive anywhere, you are not a commuter. That's on a different level of doing business.

Actually I'm somewhere between you and Old Mech and Frank (who are apparently retired). I guess we just don't fit in as daily commuters and can't answer the survey.

My work is varied in that I drive to customers to service them when they call me. That's not the same as a commute that wage earners must do on a daily basis. Some weeks I drive 100 miles, all local driving, some weeks virtually none. It has a lot to do with our stagnant economy. But that's another story...

I commute 52km (32miles) each way, mostly highway and motorway with a 600 metre elevation change.
Commute time is around 45 minutes each way, taking it easy, mostly in the dark.

I drive about 40 miles a day in my Kia picking up 3 co workers and then we all head to a storage unit where we park the company van and trailer. And we drive all over the state of md or va or Florida to move people's furniture or scrap metal or trash. We love those long trips making big money.

My commute is divided in three parts. First it's 3.6km to the train station which part I'm cycling. Then I'm going by the train for ~30km and then 3km by my bicycle again. And I'm at work The way back home is the same but the other way around of course

Perhaps, but surely it is relevant information, if you want to understand how people get to work, and how that changes over time.

Maybe some here will understand the Classical reference.

I'm all for it. Then it becomes a matter of how people work, and not "how people get to work".
