It is similar with Moony; If I pulse and glide it should be very gentle and the pulse should be driving with load.

Using the TPS gauge has been helpful.

The economy button helps you pulse a little harder. I'm a big fan of it.

I lol'ed that the OP hates stop signs, but don't bother to hate on stop lights, stop signs are static... stop lights change timings etc where I live based on week day vs weekend and time of day/night.

Anyway, I don't really P&G much, but I drive based on what I have learned about P&G. I take off @ ~80% load based on the ultra load gauge, probably around 11.5-12 map sensor reading. Once I'm at speed I normally don't gain anything P&G on flat ground, however any hills etc (most are pretty small, like overpass small), I'll EOC up the hill where I know by the time I'm at the bottom of the hill again, I'll be going around my target speed. I try to EOC to stop signs, stop lights are a pain since I drive into work at night and go home in the morning, so timing isn't all that easy, and the fact the green light is very short lived on the road I take.

Before I moved, I got slightly better MPG on a route with about the same number of stops, but the stops were all closer together, and had a long stright run at 50mph (higher traffic road), my new route is about the same distance, but I take more back roads and travel 45mph as I probably only see 8 cars a night on a 40 mile trip.

When I tested out some P&G back in the summer months, I had to go from 50mph down to around 15mph to gain anything at all, and I was EOC for the glide. If I P&G up to 50mph and down to ~5mph I was seeing pretty impressive numbers (65-70mpg), but that is just about not possible to do with traffic around, even the little I see of it.

So going off that, EOC is probably the most damaging thing you can do to an engine besides running it with out oil or coolent lol.

Not sure where you get that EOC is damaging. It's not like it's a cold start every time.

The PCM knows that the wheels are spinning without the engine's help. It teases the engine about it, which makes the engine feel jealous and depressed. It starts sulking.

@ the comments about my post

I swear there was a post above mine where someone was going on about extra wear from the fuel cut off decel, so my reply to it was that EOC would cause more damage based on their post lol.

I'm still EOCing btw :P. 260k miles and still going strong (owned since 225k, and it was a city beater before that).

I am new in this area of pulse and glide, even if I was looking for good fuel consumption till now. Since I have found this site, I have tried to teach more about hypermiling, and today I made my first trip with P&G, in neutral. I was on a flat road, a national road, how is called in Romnai, where the speed limit is 50kph in villages and 90 kph outside. I tried 80/60kph pulse and glide, in fourth gear, because I have a diesel, and the consumption was very good comparing with the ongoing route. My question is about the functionality of the clutch and the possible problems with it, because I coast in neutral, at idle rpm, press the clutch, shifting 4 gear, when the speed is around 60kph! Most of the roads are like this, the traffic isnt so high, so I can afford to do this, but not being sure if is OK!

I think with diesel P&G could be a good idea but someone with the specialized testing equipment would need to measure it. Sadly disabling EGR on a diesel gives an increase in fuel economy but a huge increase in NOX emissions. I don't think saving a litre or so of diesel is worth a few extra hundred tons of emissions per year

With petrol I have only tested engine off glide and found that while it improved fuel economy it gave almost 4x the pollution output. I wasn't even able to get accurate measures because on restart it pegged my 5 gas analyzer at max
