I burn everything in my coal furnace during the winter, hardly produce any trash then.

I guess they are trying to make coal look like the clean and sane option.
Most us trash incinerators are very old and are not equipped with modern pollution controls as long as you leave out vinyl there is nothing coming out of a trash incinerator that doesn’t come out of a coal fired plant

There are very reasonable reasons to not allow much of anything in the landfill like having an area the size of Rhode Island in every state for junk then 50 years later plant houses on the mess.

Imagine if you will if it makes that kind of pollution being burnt what is it doing marginally sequestered for 50 years in the ground?

Considering how both single-use plastics and regular fuels are made out of the very same petroleum, it sounds even more pointless how Europe tries to simply ban single-use plastics. Sure recycling shouldn't be out of question, while a ban on a material which can have a proper end-of-life destination doesn't address the issue when it comes to certain circumstances when plastic is still the most suitable material such as food packaging.

Simple things like shampoo and conditioner can be made into a bar - like a bar of soap, and you simply later it up in your hands and use it the same as 'normal' shampoo and conditioner.
Laundry detergent can be made into a powder and packaged in a cardboard box.
Toothbrushes handles can be made of wood.
Serving trays and single use fast food trays can be made of waxed cardboard.
And on and on.

This is the way things were made before plastic took over everything.

It sucks that to find a bar of shampoo / conditioner, you have to order online.

I'd bet most of you don't even know such a thing exists.( I sure didn't until just recently ! )

I'll let you in on a secret. You don't need special soap (ie - shampoo) to wash your hair - regular soap works fine. You also don't need conditioner if you don't wash your hair every day which strips out the natural oils.

I used to shampoo with tea tree oil bar soap, but nowadays I just treat my scalp and beard with Selsun Blue and rinse my hair.

I'd rather just use regular soap, as I already do often.

Laundry detergent powder packaged in a cardboard box is the most usual in my country, even though some cheaper ones resort to a plastic bag instead of the cardboard box.

Toothbrushes handles can be made of wood.
Microbial growth would be a matter of concern with the usage of wood and other biological substracts for the manufacturing of toothbrushes.

Waxed cardboard food trays are often not that great for some food items.
