For the two years leading up to November it was 125 miles per day, before that it was 180. Now I call the unemployment office every two weeks and my car hasn't been started yet this week.

Holy moly! Sorry to hear that you're out of work, though.

Work's about 30 feet. Now ask how far I live from skiing, hiking, etc, because that's what I do most of my driving for.

Last summer the company asked for ideas on how we could improve our "carbon footprint". I suggested allowing us to use flex time to avoid commuting. I surveyed the department (Engineering) of 28 and the average was 64 miles per day with the highest at 144. I figured that if we could only get our work loads / schedules to work out to allow us to not commute 1 day every other week, our department would save 20 tons of CO2 per year. They bought us reusable coffee cups instead.

...hell, even a styrofoam coffee cup is "reusable" if you don't mind the brown patina.

I don't work but i commute back and forth to college everyday, except Mondays when i ride my bicycle. Depending which way i go it's between 21.6 and 23.4 miles driving, but it's only 19.1 miles on my bicycle because i take a different way.
