I figured that if we could only get our work loads / schedules to work out to allow us to not commute 1 day every other week, our department would save 20 tons of CO2 per year. They bought us reusable coffee cups instead.

I wish you the best and hope you can find something soon.

It's too late to change the poll options, but a geometric spacing of the poll options would have been better: 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 23, 34, 50, 77, 115mi, etc. The difference between 5 and 10mi is much more important than the difference between 45 and 50mi.
The point I'm trying to make here is that I like math.

Hi,
At the moment, I am working in my own house -- no commute other than a few steps in my slippers...

I'm retired, so I have no commute. When I worked, my commute ranged from 3 miles each way to 40. I only drove a single occupant car regularly to work 2 of those years. The rest of the time, I bicycled, motorcycled, carpooled, vanpooled, bused, or rode BART or a ferry.

I used to live 100-150 miles from work depending on the project, at the time I thought that the pay was good then I did the math and realized that I could not afford to do that any more!
Now I'm 4 miles away and have an EV to take me there, I work less and have more time and money.
A year and a half ago I bought a house that is about half a mile closer to work but is right in town, 8 blocks from down town, now I drive half as much.

Still will have a commute of 100 miles round trip, but changing jobs in the same place. Giving up my 4 person carpool for a 10 passenger vanpool instead... The switch is like a pay raise, as my new employer covers the van expenses. Less wear and tear on my Jeep!!!

Good to hear you found another job. It's pretty slim pickins around here. Thankfully our shop is one that is still going but has slowed down a lot in the last year.
I drive 25.6 miles one way, which is the shortest and fastest way but not best for mpg. A different way is a mile longer (4%) but gets me only about 4% better mpg and the road tears up my car more.

4 days a week I live 5.5 miles. 2 days a week I live 1300 miles.
On Monday night I fly from Tucson to San Jose. Pick up my car at office (next to long term parking lot) and drive to apt. Reverse the trip Friday night. I calculated my CO2 usage with the plane flight and driving 11 miles a day and driving to airport in Tucson and it was not as bad as I thought. In fact better then someone driving SUV back/forth to work for 50 miles a day.

I'm 118 miles round trip. Same story about lack of local jobs. I do pick up a carpool about 20 miles into my commute and the best part is he pays for 2/3 of my fuel. He gets door to door reliable service. I provide great gas mileage. I plan to get a closer job when things pick up.
