Leaving for xmas vacations to visit the family really challenges my spacial optimisation skills. A kid by iteslf does not take much space, but all the stuff the wife decides must follow the kid do. So once or twice a year I wish I had a bigger car. But really I should just rent a bigger one for those rare occasions.

Never* I drive a Honda Insight, and there are plenty of times I wished it was a bit smaller.

* OK, full honesty here: I wish the seats would go back another inch or two (making the car a bit longer, but less tall). There's also been a time or two when I wished the hatch had a bit more room: the mountain bike would fit nicely in my old CRX, but (because of the space taken up by the battery & power electronics) getting it in the Insight means popping off the rear wheel and doing a bit of creative space packing.

210 cm skis fit just fine, though.

Not even once . Ever.

I even managed to fit a small oak tree in my car ( had it rest on my 'tailgate' and hang out the back. )

Never wished the Flea were bigger. Smaller, yes, lots of times.

I moved to the west coast once, all my stuff crammed in a 1989 Honda Accord without too much trouble. And once to the east coast, Firefly packed to the headliner. I kind of like the way a smaller vehicle makes you re-evaluate how much stuff you really need .

The ForkenSwift is another story. It's just right - I use it a fair amount to take a pair of nephews and our snowboards/sleds to the local park to play in the snow. If I couldn't fit three and our gear, it'd mean going in a gas-burner.

The Insight is a small car. I had to take the passenger seat out to fit a bumper cover and hood in there. And surprisingly, 4' long flatpack furniture is a tight squeeze. But the only thing I haven't yet figured out how to fit in the Insight is my road bike. I'd have to remove both wheels, and that's a lot to ask.

So, three times. But no, I do not wish I had gotten the Civic HX or Civic Hybrid instead.

When driving my Subaru 360 back to my folks place I wish it were about 1ft longer so the rear passenger didn't have to sit diagonal.

Yep I have to agree completely with that statement.
Small houses do the same thing which is a good thing at least in my opinion.

Cheers ,Pete.

I started off in a 78 delta 88, at the age of 15,swayed in the wind. the front end plowed so much air, when the bouncing needle buried, the hood ornament spring loaded was laying back whistling as loud as the window leak...at 10 miles per gallon.

the question I had was.."how small can I go and not feel squashed?"

my very next car was a chevette. I despised it. Relapsed. bought a 74 ford pickup, full size...
again needed smaller...

didn't see small again, as if at war with a country full of 3 foot tall people, for some years, all v8s.

by chance, willing to go for a ride with friends in the summer of 1996 (I remember exactly)... an 89 subaru gl with a funky dashboard. 3 of us and a v8 in the back. had an amazing sound for such a small engine. ran deep low rpms. when he told me it was less than 1.8 liters... holy crap. The freakin little car had more room than a chevy blazer, and didn't want to tip over.

that size has left us of course. I hang on again, to an 87 gl, I no longer want anything, as if at war with an invisible country full of 3 foot tall people...

Once. When my mk1 Punto (1.1) had 17 peoples worth of climbing gear (harnesses, ropes, helmets etc), camping gear and 5 or 6 tents. Along with a few days worth of food and a couple of cases of beer. Oh, and myself and a passenger. Back seats were folded flat and it was packed to the roof..

Cruised at 80mph+ for most of the 3hr journey there and (after two days driving around) the same on the way back, and still managed to get 43mpg..
