Having thunderstorms on and off through the day I was unable to charge my leaf.
I mean sure I could risk the life of my EVSE or my on board vehicle charger.
But I would rather not.
If I really absolutely had to charge it I could have fired up my 7kw generator. Instead I just hooked the trailer up to my firebird.
Just something to think about if you live somewhere that gets a lot of daily or almost daily thunderstorms such as in Florida.

When I build my our side charger I am adding features to it.
It will definitely have a control contactor and timer switches.
A time on delay that will delay charge start so a that thunderstorm pops up can pass or if the battery is hot it can have a chance to cool down.
A time off delay so I can stop charging before the battend is full.
Also for winter so I can have the battery charge at night and be just finishing just as I need it in the morning so it can be a little warm.

3 weeks away from the peak of hurricane season and so far meh...
I was told events like Katrina would become a regular occurrence because of global warming.

Well the east cost is going to get it. It could hit land as a cat 5.
Don't leave your pets or electric vehicles behind.
If you live on the coast a leaf, with a new battery like mine would need to be driven at 35mph till it runs dry to almost be safe or 2 charges to get to safety.
This is precisely one of the reasons I left the east cost of Virginia almost 8 years ago. Better 8 years too early than 8 hours too late.
I usually never say this, but this is one of the times you should listen to the government and get out.

I got a surprise thunderstorm last night and my 16amp 240v duosida charger got wet before I could run out side and pull the j1772 and drag the whole thing inside.
The amber fault light was on.
I was able to open it up and dry it off and it's working fine again.
You have to keep your EVSE brick dry, I could have probably put it up under the hood.
Normally the EVSE brick is up under the porch over hang or inside the garage but not last night.
