Can't be. That's just not what car companies have gotten us used to in the last few years. I can (almost) understand someone not getting a better FE car b/c it was much more expensive, but now who would buy a non-Blue Accent?
If only other car companies were like that...

Smaller engines are generally less expensive, right? I don't know if there is a difference in engine displacement or some other specs, but smaller is usually cheaper to build, right? Hyundai is offering FE as the cheaper route, and those that want more power or acceleration or w/e can pay for it.
Hyundai is getting major +rep in my eyes.

That's how it should be, but look at the prices of an SUV and a modern econocar. The latter is like 3 times smaller, its engine has 6 times smaller displacement, but costs at least the same (or more likely more) than the SUV.
This is partially because of politics, and partially because the smaller engine is usually more advanced technologically.

Where is the ecomodder badge? Where are the ecomodder royalties? Seriously, they should have a thread here somewhere where we could help them out. The rear end of all these cars need help.
It reads like a project list. I'm still surprised at how modest these numbers are considering the 15 year old metro still has them beat by miles with 38 city, 45 highway mpg.
I'm still waiting for the mild hybrid plug in alternatorless edition.

One thing to remember is the relatively small increases in highway MPG from aero & gearing tweaks may actually work out to be better in real life, because the average speed of the EPA highway test is only 48 mph.
Yet another reason the official tests should include a simple top gear fuel consumption vs speed graph.
EG. if MPG @ a steady 70 MPH were a regularly discussed data point about cars, the manufacturers would have a greater incentive to do the mods (like aero) that would have a large effect on it.

My fiancee's 09 Fit AT turns about 2200 RPM at 60. At 70-75 it's around 2600 IIRC. She gets about 30-31 city and ~41 highway, more if she keeps her foot out of it.
If you read closely, the major differences in the Blue vehicles are the eco-things such as the aero and the shift light. The engine changes are spread throughout the model.
I'd buy a basic Accent quickly if I needed a little commuter/runabout.
