I think that it is referring to the accelerator pedal position sensor. Unfortunately that means I need to replace the whole pedal assembly, which costs like $140.

I didn't see so many people complaining about this engine, even though it's not so popular in my country or in regional export markets.

Nice. I started out with a 79 Rabbit diesel many years ago. The newer VWs seem to have more electrical problems, but the drivetrains are generally stout.

My friend has a on 03 Jetta with 300,000 miles on it and it is still running strong. He has chased small electrical problems, the PC boards on the doors are problematical he has had some trouble with the trunk and fuel door.

Welcome to the TDI club.

I've got a 1979 Dasher diesel parked out front right now with an electrical problem. The oil pressure indicator light has failed. It's an LED on a PCB. If it were a Beetle, that would have been fixed long ago.

It is funny that you mention that, because mine has problems with the trunk opening as well as the door locks. Oh well. I have not been able to drive it yet since bringing it home because I am still working on it... waiting on a new turbo from Kerma TDI.

I am very close to having the TDI all done. It actually would be done by now, but I lost an important bolt somewhere in the engine bay...

If anyone is curious, this is what I have replaced thus far:

Turbo
Thermostat
Ball joint
Coolant temp sensor
Accelerator position pedal sensor
ATF and filter

I have also done some aero mods including a side skirt and grill block! I will post some pictures tomorrow.

What happened to the turbo leading you to get a replacement one?

I had a check engine code for overboost, and it was pretty dirty. There was oil in some of the boost piping so I figured that wasnt good. Plus at 275k miles I figured a new one wouldnt hurt.

Much better than taking the risk of an engine runaway. BTW did you use a stock turbo or an aftermarket one?
