I Got A Job !

I have been out of work for several months, just finished orentation at Walmart, so now I have a commute 8 mi 1 way. Unfortunately my car died, so I have to drive my Suburban for a while, bye bye 31 mpg
Its all good I have a job and like the car too much to get rid of it, look for a build thread on the Sub soon.

The diesel spesific FE boosting stuff like cold air intake, ram air, water injection wont really be of use to you.

New job - excellent!!
Good luck with the Celica too. I don't know the Toyota line that well but had really good luck with a '76 Corolla right through approx '86 at 186K miles.

Can you get a tranny with more gears so you have a taller top gear? A performance engine running at lower rpms should get real mpg improvement on the highway at least.

And I definitely recommend a kill switch for convenient coasting. Not sure how you would do that if it has a carburetor but there must be threads on that.
