About the same number of years ago, I was doing a bunch of round trips to Indiana from NH and that was about 1000miles (roughly 17hrs) each way. I once left NH on a Friday evening (7:00ish?) only to return to NH on a Monday morning (8:00ish?). You do the math.

I drove straight through from Atlanta buy way of Nashville to Reno non stop 32 hrs. Stopped only for gas, food and rest areas.

I did this in the winter. Anyone that thinks that Nevada, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and Nebraska don't get snow, can think again. Longest drive I ever did on snow packed roads. Good thing I am from the NW and know how to drive in it.

Oh, I wasn't hypermiling.

I am soon to embark on my annual drive from Phoenix, AZ to Black Rock City, NV for the Burning Man art festival. It generally takes me around 24 hours from the time I get up until I am there. It is about 760 miles.

Later,

Allan Greenblazer

I drove straight through from Riverside, CA to Asheville, NC in a 68 Bug when I came back from college in 1981. Departed Riverside at 11AM on Tuesday and arrived in Asheville at 8AM on Thursday.

From 1993 to 2002 twice a year I would tag team with my FIL taking his motorhome back and forth, Maine to Florida. 40' diesel pusher towing an enclosed car carrier. 300 gallons of diesel averaging 6 MPG, we would not stop unless the weather forced us to. Most trips took 24-26 hours to cover the 1600 miles.

I used to look forward to it. We used to call it "The Cannonball Run".
