We had latency of seconds in Afghanistan, but not only did the signal go to space and back down, but halfway around the world.

Throughput does not equal latency. If speeds down are 10x the speed up you are an end user. If up is equal to down your a digital citizen.

Among my most frequent complaints is lack of transparency for upload rates for internet packages. I challenge anyone to show me a webpage I can go to that declares the upload speed for a given package...
Half the reason I chose the "250 mbps" package from my cable provider was it's the lowest tier service that doubled the standard 5 mbps upload to 10. The other half of the reason is it gave me 500 GB / mo rather than a paltry 300. I can exceed 500 GB in a month. Practically none of my reason was for 250 download, cause I'd hardly notice any difference from 50. There's no amount of streaming in 4k I could do to exceed 50 mbps, and who cares if downloads take a few seconds longer.

The local electric company (who rapes me on c/kWh) advertises 10,000mbps up. hahaha

I think the starlink is a good idea. 99/mo for 50-150 and 30ms latency, but it is $600 up front to get started. Big ouch. But this is good for my last city i lived in where the two internet companies announced they wouldn't directly compete with each other so if you wanted internet at any address you had once choice (bill goes up every chance they get... what are you gonna do? Cancel?)
With star link i would tell them to suck my dick im going somewhere else if they raise my bill. (price starts at 24.99 and they target to get you to 80-90$/mo for the same thing by surprise raising your bill every chance)
Its suddenlink btw

Speaking of internet, I have service again.
StarLink would be sweet for people who travel in an RV. If I were retired, I'd visit various national parks by day and do my internetting by night with that dish mounted to the roof.

I mentioned it to a mom on my caseload and she got excited until I mentioned the up-front price. One Google result showed the top 8 Internet providers, but I clicked on 12 providers in Show Low- Frontier, with up to 500 Mb download, for $60--rated 1.6 stars.
- Sparklight, which we have. There are different packages, but they advertise 200 Mb down for $65, with a 600 GB cap. It doesn't have any reviews. I don't always have a stable connection for Zoom, but I just got 113 Mbps.
- Viasat for $70. 25 Mb down, 2 stars, and no cap. Allegedly you can get 50 Mb for $100.
- Hughes offers 20 Mb down for $70 and has 2 stars, with a 20 GB soft data cap, but they offer 50 Mb for $150.
- TWN may serve my area, but one does not simply check their ZIP, they must get through sales first! They offer 5 Mb down for $50, 10 Mb for $80, and 15 for $100. They don't have any reviews, but they allegedly don't have a cap, either.
Look guys, I am really good at counting to 12, that was just 5!

I was watching the death throes of a channel that I used to enjoy. His last several videos had about 1,000 views each. He mentioned that you can stay in national parks for free for a couple of weeks.
How much would it cost to drive from national park to national park a couple of times a month?

Apparently the rule for the national forest is that you just have to move 5 miles every 30 days and you're good to keep camping. All free as well too. Bring what you want. Pack in pack out etc...
