Cutting the springs firmed up the suspension noticeably - I took the sway bars off to improve the ride over uneven bumps after that.

Well I blew a tire today, so a falken all season 175 is in its place, next weekend the other 3 tires will match.
Apparently I didn't have a single tire with more than 17psi
Maybe I should have checked the tire pressures when I purchased my 500 dollar car lol.

Air pressure has a lot to do with handling and stopping distances... first thing I notice when I get a low tire is my car will want to slide in that direction when cornering in the wet...

So the car broke down again today, but this time I have to tow it. I was pulling out into and intersection and the transmission popped out of gear and started grinding. I can't get the car to start in any gear. As so as I start to release the clutch there is a pop and the gear starts to grind. It does this in all gears including reverse. The shift linkage under the car looks fine. I hope I don't have to pull the transmission to solve this problem. Do you guys have any ideas? I can put it in gear no problem but it immediately pops out of gear when I start to release the clutch, even as I hold the shifter in place.

Huh!
I've never had a CV fail.
Usually they give you lots of warning with clicking noises when the steering is turned sharp under load, or if there's a vibration in the driveline while driving.

I know, that was what was so strange. There was no prior clicking, and when it gave out, it just made a gear teeth grinding sound, almost like a starter slip. But surely enough I set up a camera under the car and one half spins while the wheel stays still.

Curious where you're at with this now. And how do you like the swift? I've been looking for a small commuter and I don't want to sacrifice my 2001 GTI to the hypermiler life. It's too fun.
