if you want to build one, here's the data sheet, and schematic of it's layout.

i'm not suggesting this would be any cheaper, but i think it would be pretty simple to build each of the sub-systems in the chip and then connect them together. at least gives you an idea of what all would be required.

Mr. Bigh:

I would like a pcb board, parts and VLA500 chip ( and anything else I need to complete a driver) mailed to:

John McManus,
Box 706,
Oxford, Nova Scotia,
Canada, B0M 1P0.

I will pay by paypal as soon as I get a total.

Sorry, but I'm blocked from reaching you through email. I also can't give you my email because I am blocked. Is there a way to communicate that will be accepted by this site?

Thanks:
John

The schematic shown on that data sheet link is for the interface, not the actual VLA500 module circuit.

For those interested in the VLA500 modules, Powerex is not the manufacture of them. A company called “Isahaya Electronics” (Hybrid ICFIGBT driver series) makes them for Powerex.

Is there a schematic / bom available for the board?

I will be supplying the bare PCB @ u$s9.50 and the PC board with almost all parts, excluding the VLA500-01 and the 2 gate power resistors for u$s 33.25.
Gate resistors (R3 and R7) depend on the preferred IGBT to be use, values will be in the range of 1.5 to 12 Ohms, 2 Watts dissipation.
Parts will be supplied populated on the board but unsolder to minimize parts bagging, labeling and placement mistake.
The parts kit:
6 Zenner diodes
2 Ultra fast recovery diodes
5 resistors
2 Optoisolators
5 electrolytic cap.
2 right angle connector headers
1 straight connector header
3 header connector sockets
12 gold crimp/solder pins

All parts distribution will be handled by USPS flat rate mailers in continental USA.
International orders are welcome, inquire whiting.
Payment will be through PAYPAL.
Thanks for putting this together.

Just a couple of tard questions. How many amps is the driver good for? I have the P&S boards. This replaces the standard drivers for more amps with the DC open revolt? If am interested in 2 boards if it will handle at least 1000 amps.

That would depend on your IGBT's. The VLA500-01 drivers are good for up to 1400A IGBT devices, so with 2 VLA's, you could put down 2800A as the theoretical limit of the controller.

I'd say a safer bet would be along the lines of 2000A or so.
