Tuft tested the side mirrors today. (Folded as always.) Not a pretty sight. What to do...?

It would be interesting to make a complete test. Maybe a scale model and a fan...? Is this going too far?

You need to read the "you know you're an ecomodder when..." thread.

EDIT - Hit post too quick. You could experiment with a much smaller mirror, maybe a bike one if you have to have one legally (we do), or one of those van type ones which have a hollow "arm" segment and smaller mirror - I'm thinking old style Opel Corsavan/Combo style ones.

Something like this

with smaller glass ?

EDIT 2 - or something like these, I've never found them here (UK) though.

I'm half way through the thread. This would qualify: When you buy a scale model and make a complete body tuft test. ...and film it and put it on youtube.

Linkage is now compulsory, or this didn't happen...

I doubt it ever will. But I had the thought.
I'll be looking for mirror replacements. Thanks for the suggestion.

More mods

Today was a good Igor day. He is now 30 mm lower. The front was a bit of a pain; six hours to change the front springs (top nuts destroyed) but the rear was a six minute affair -- didn't even remove the wheels. The front wouldn't have been possible without my friend Uffe.

The antenna is now removed. If your are considering it have a look under the switch for the indoor light. It is really easy.

I have never liked power steering so today I took it away. It feels much better. The car is so light, so I do not think it's needed. The only problem is the warning light but I can live with it.

The lower grill block is now permanent. I also moved the license plate so it's now over the grill block to the right. I can easily cut a small hole for the radiator if it will be necessary when it gets warmer in spring. I hope I won't have to.

Rear license plate lightning are now LED. They sent me different colours from Hong Kong so it looks a bit strange with one blueish and one greenish light but it's a minor problem.

There is some rubber skirt-thing hanging down in the front. I'm thinking of making it longer to get the air stream away from under the car as much as possible. While working today I noticed a lot of fastening points for a under body cover… Hm, that will be a fun project.

I have to read up on the car specific english but please correct the language if I make mistakes.

The language is fine.

What does your insurance say about mods like lowering ? If I do that here they want mega £s extra and one of the savings with George is the lower insurance - I'm aiming for £150 instead of the £375 the fabia was costing me.

Hopefully my front grill will be blocked this PM, after usual family stuff of Sunday mornings...

Good luck with the grill block.

About insurance, I don't know, so I sent an e-mail with the question. I doubt that it would influence the cost though. (£150 is low. I don't think it's possible to get it for under 200 here. I pay about 300 but that is a full insurance since I don't have the 3 year warranty anymore.)

Not sure we are tapping the same thing - insurance here is needed to drive on the road in case you crash ? Warranty is where the car breaks, and recovery is when you need to be towed home

Off to block just now - in between the rain

Also pictures - we like images...

I think we are. Insurance is divided into three parts; To pay for damage you cause others; theft, towing etc and finally for damage to your car caused by yourself. The third part is covered in the three years warranty from the manufacturer. Now that I think about it sounds strange. I hope i haven't misunderstood it for all the thirty years I have had cars.
