In case you guys missed it in the G1 thread, Daox actually took his original idea of the 3D printed shift knob and made it into a 3-button version I currently have installed on Turtle. Made driving the car even more fun!

How lengthy are the wires that he includes? Did you have to extend them to reach up to the clutch/brake switch?

They extended about a foot, which is long enough to make a connection below the center console. I had to re-wire the clutch switch to move it from the dash to the console.

Couple of things to help when you get yours:

#1 - Wiring it was a biatch, but well worth it of course! I loosened the console, pulled off the old shifter (after removing the regen & kill switches from it), and fed the wires from the new shift knob down through the shroud. Then I had to slowly turn the shift knob onto the shaft and keep turning the wires, which wanted to curl around the shaft the whole time. After I got the shift knob on tight, I had to hold up the console while making the connections to the three buttons. After a test drive which told me I had the regen and clutch switches reversed (even after labelling them!) I had it all together.
#2 - In retrospect, if I was gonna have Daox make me another one, I would rotate the buttons clockwise so the thumb button is more toward the front. It triggers really easily, and I have hit it a hundred times and felt the car lurch. My fix was to turn the whole shift knob about 30 degrees clockwise so I'm not constantly hitting the kill switch by mistake. I'd see if he can revise his shifter before he makes yours, you'll thank me!
All he needs to do is rotate the logo about thirty degrees counter clockwise from where he has it now and all will be good!

Daox - If you read this, PM me what you'd charge me for the top half of the shift knob rotated 30 degrees counter clockwise, and I'll drop some money in your paypal account! Love the thing other than my stupid thumb hitting the kill switch all the time!

This has me concerned about the one I just paid for. I'm only doing 2 buttons but am wondering where the buttons will be and if I'll be killing or starting the engine accidently.

Then again, I don't really care if the EM logo is facing the right direction since I'm pretty much the only one that will see it lol

I can certainly get you a new top Cowmeat.

Spacemanspif, you can put the buttons anywhere you want really. I positioned them initially to where I thought would be a good idea. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to install my own shift knob yet, so I can't say how the intended position works. Cowmeat can probably give the best input on where to put them as he is the only one currently using a working shift knob (I don't think OG VX has his wired up yet).

Doax, can you make the wires like 3 feet if it's okay? I don't know if it's possible but it would be nice.

Also yea, please rotate mine per cowmeat's suggestion :P

Cow, could you put a washer or two in there to keep it from tightening more than you want?

I asked Daox for a one-button shifter:
Quote:
Do you know if you need a normally open or normally closed switch, and how much amperage the switch will be handling? I'm also going to need the thread pitch for your shifter shaft.
My response thus far:
Quote:
Wow! I do not know any of those answers!

I have not done a kill switch before. We have members using both types of switches, right? Umm... Normally open, please!

I do not know about the amperage...

According to Google, the thread pitch is 10x1.5.
I read http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...vic-18242.html and it specifies NO, but not amps. How many do I need? Do I have the other details correct (normally open and the thread pitch?)

Thank you very much!

Nah, won't work.

I've already turned it on the shaft to where the buttons are where I want them, but the logo now sits about 30 degrees clockwise from vertical. The whole top half needs adjusted as to the orientation of the logo versus the button locations. It functions perfectly, it's just a cosmetic thing

Cow, where abouts are the buttons now with the logo at 30 degrees off? I've got a 2 button order in and was thinking that 11 and 7 o'clock positions would be good but am second guessing that now. Thought I'd go with your setup but less 1 button. Not sure when Doax is printing mine but I'd like to double check spacing.

I'd put them more like 10 and 2 o'clock

The 10 o'clock I'd make my kill button, and the other whatever you had in mind

Mine sit at like 10, 12 and 2 o'clock right now, which is pretty much perfect, but the logo is tilted now. Just a cosmetic issue, and I was the beta test!
