How about a trailer that carries batteries and has a driven wheel?

Added rolling resistance and external dimensions considerations.

What is the highest offset you can get on a 15x5.5 or 15x5 steel wheel? Would something like 80+ mm be possible? Custom made maybe?

Burying that wheel as much as possible in the well to make space for the sheave and put a nice skirt over the wheel would make a nice mod.

If you use a simple swing-arm rear suspension, you could put the drive sprocket on the same axis as the swing arm pivot point. That way there is no need for a tensioner on the chain. (Or, keeping in mind that the real world means having to allow for some extra movement, it means you don't need as much of a tensioner.) Perhaps motorcycle swing-arms would work. They have a chain (or belt!) drive that has been very thoroughly worked out.

First of all, why are they trying to use two different battery packs?

For hairball ideas, I thought using a motor for the rear differential was worth researching. If you thought 38lbs was bad, this motor is 150lbs. But it's 33kw continuous. To get the nominal battery pack voltage to 312volts I was looking at 26- 20amp/hr batteries. I found AGMs with 12amp/hr and 18amp/hr. But even 20amp/hrs would only be worth 10 miles@60mph at 50% DOD and still weighs in at 400lb battery pack for lead acids. The lithiums would be 200lbs and $7000. It would work in a full size sedan or a compact pickup like my ranger but it would require a 70hp motor/generator which is about what the newer 1.0L Metro engine do. But I haven't found an inverter.

tesla is a great idea

used all imaginable materials single and multi disks even mild tabs on disk surfaces to help start flow. this is grossely ignored technology, and it is a shame that tesla turbines and pumps are not in widespread use. they will pump when the other pumps wont get the job done.

love your idea but would not be much energy left on a turbo vehicle.
tuning it and controlling it would be tricky too but great idea.
it is being done with hydraulics everywhere but much trickier with live gasses
unless you are going off a storage tank with near constant pressure.

b.t.w. here is a thread i just started not knowing this one existed (thanks Darin)
