How The Cars Of Logan Grappled With The Very Real Future

The most plausible autonomous truck concept I've seen. We all know the final dolly should have a collapsible boat tail as well.
Fantastic article.

The boat tail would have been nice, but with the ability of autonomous trucks to follow each other very closely, it might be superfluous. Instead, they could use VGs to trim the wake, and those would not interfere with the packing efficiency you can get out of a full herd of autonomous trucks on the highway.

Some years ago I was climbing the south Salem hills on I-5, and I passed a double, a triple and a super single. It took the whole hill to pass.

I imagine when they are all chained together and my exit is coming up.

Your autonomous vehicle will have to talk to the truck and negotiate a settlement. Just hope they don't get into some long delayed argument over it like people do.

Computers can make mistakes "...at the speed of light...", humans are MUCH slower (wink, wink)!

I saw it formulated as "To err is human, to really screw up takes a computer."

That Panhard is really interesting - if the plan taper could be reduced to allow for a horizontal bumper, then that would be a viable aerodynamic package for a practical car.

As is, it would be much safer in a 40% offset rear-end collision.

OTOH there would be no need for a second (third?) license plate.

This delivery truck just needs a little roof taper.
