Gotta love the plot ending.

While Terry is recovering from his injury, Jane goes to bat for him. Emery's board of trustees have suspended further financing for the carburetor, but Jane gets their decision reversed, since she is secretly Jane Emery, the niece and heiress of the company's owner. In a new car designed to make a world speed record at the Muroc Dry Lake in California, Terry proves that his design works but nearly loses his life in the attempt. When a fuel pipe cracks, choking fumes are funneled into the cockpit causing the record run to end prematurely. Terry is severely injured. With only minutes to save his life, Frank places him in the car and drives it to the Muroc hospital at high speed, completing the world record run in the process. Terry is finally vindicated and wins the girl as well.

I thought I was inspired by Art Deco locomotives, but that a pretty close match.

I'll bet aeroheqd squirrels away those pictures of the Chrysler 'batmobile'. Maybe Carl Breer's office produced the clay, but it was built on a Cord L-29 chassis, according to the fine article. The sightlines are terrible and it would have massive front end lift at 140mph.

I was looking up the date for the Portland Roadster Show (61st annual, March 17-19, FYI) and stumbled across a b&w picture of a car that is very important to me because I saw it on the streets of McMinnville, OR when it was new.

John Corno owned it in the 1970s, but it was built by Ron Courtney. It had a sectioned body, 53 Studebacker pans with matching custom bumpers front and rear and hand-crafted fins with a scoop at the root and and red plexiglass tail-lights bigger than a '59 Chevy's.

aerohead Liked it. Imagine if it had the fins reversed, like the Bertone B.A.T.s. As is the fins are very similat to the Bill Hines 'Batmobile'.

Just in time for our east coast blizzard I received my copy of "Aerodynamics of Road Vehicles". The fifth edition (2015) is edited aby Thomas Schuetz. The first chapter, Introduction to Automobile Aerodynamics, is written by Wolf-Heinrich Hucho who compiled the two previous editions. The photo of the "Tram-bus" kach22i cited appears in the latest edition as Fig. 1.44 on page 42. The earlier editions are available on Amazon.com. There is a great deal of useful information in the fourteen chapters (1175 pages) and 908 references plus biographic notes on the authors.
