Introduction
Hi all, my name is Fred Claridge and I am getting into fuel economy more. I have a 1986 Honda CRX HF. I am currently getting 48 mpg, but would love to see that number go way up. Does anyone have ideas for mods to increase economy for this car? I would love to see what I can do. I look forward in chatting and looking around.
Fred

Hi Fred, welcome to the site.
I'm sure you will have many envious comments from the Honda crowd about your HF.
As for mods, dive into the Ecomodding Central and Aerodynamics forums and you'll find more ideas than you can shake a wrench at.
I'm sure you've already seen the driving tips: 100+ hypermiling / ecodriving tips to increase gas mileage - EcoModder.com - that's the fastest/cheapest way to significant MPG improvements.

Thanks. I really like driving it. It is light, responsive and great mileage. I have 215,000 on it. I freshened the motor about 35K ago with rings and bearings, radiator and general tune up parts. Just put in new axles and bearings a month ago. New shocks last weekend and steering wheel 2 days ago. I am fixing the vacuum leak tonight with a new carb base plate. It's almost like getting a new car with it running so well. I am glad I have it as I commute 115 miles everyday for work. One question I have is whether there is cruise control available for it. Anyone know?
Fred

You can get aftermarket cruise that will work. I've got an Audiovox CCS-100 (I think that's the model). They're available on eBay for about $135.
But... cruise control isn't as efficient as your brain + right foot!
Too bad the car is carbureted - limits your fuel efficiency instrumentation options.

Howdy Fred! 48 mpg? I don't need a Honda to be envious of those numbers.

Welcome fellow Washingtonian and 3rd generation Honda driver. I don't have a CRX but many here do. Carburetors are not bad just misunderstood these days. Most everything I have is carb'd. Except my Accord LXi which is my daily driver.
Man, if I had your car I could do some stuff! Those are great little cars.
If you don't have it already you need it. It's helped me a lot. More descriptive than any of the manuals you can buy. It's the Factory Honda Manual. Free to download. Go to Honda / Acura Manuals - Hondahookup.com or SHOP MANUAL - HONDA ACCORD AERODECK 1986-1989
