You probably won't find an example like that around here. For the same money, however, you could get something newer, if that's what you were looking to do.

3k for that car implies that it's in showroom condition. There's alot to be said for clean bodywork, interior, glass, and paint. At 100k miles, that car will easily last 10 more years, and looks the part .

I'd consider $2000 for it, probably not over $2500.

I just happened to see it, I remember being able to get something that nice a few years ago for under 1000.00. How's the project coming along?

Slowly, like a stock VW diesel should.

That '86 does look clean, but it is certainly expensive. The Jetta will be in the hundreds not the thousands. If I score it I will post some pics. Thanks everyone.

If you go the route of alternative fuel, the first thing to worry about is filtration. You don't want gunk and particles getting pumped through your injection system. Next is viscosity: if you get the blend too thick, you'll stress your seals, underfuel, and risk cavitation in the IP. Kerosene is a common "cutter" but I just use #2 diesel.

In an IDI you can run about a 50:50 blend of clean wmo and diesel, with no modifications. I don't have any experience with veggy oil.

The only time I have had trouble with WMO is when I was making a bunch of short trips that barely got the engine warm. The injectors had plenty of of carbon caked on the tips, hurting atomization.

I spoke to the guy last night, he has decided it's worth $1000. I am not going to pay that for it, but I am going to see if he is in to trading for a non-running '91 Pathfinder or a '95 Sentra I have no interest in. His front yard looks like a wrecking yard so maybe it will work.

Ask him in person if 1000 is the lowest he'll go... When he says yes, say: "I guess my 800 cash can't cover that" while counting it up. Hand it toward him suggestively, and say: "Can it?"

Don't another word until he answers. First one to speak loses.

If doesn't accept, say thank you, fold the money gently, stock it back in your pocket, shake the mans hand, and walk away. He may call you back, he may not, but you've lost nothing for the effort.

a Parts Place in Mich. sells new diesel heads for around 600. The valves wear into the seats until you can't buy a shim thin enough to maintain clearance. Clean premium fuel and clean filters gets the best engine life.

I took the plates off my Civic and jammed them on the Sentra to take it over to his place (ya ya I am a bad man!! ha ha) and he wasn't interested in a trade for the Sentra, but he does want to see the Pathfinder. Hopefully he will like it and we can work something out.
