What about the catalytic converter? If it is coming apart or getting plugged it may do just what you are complaining about. It would run fine at idle or a little just above until enough pressure built up to cause this problem.

I had a couple of cars that did some strange things because of the catalytic converter.

One had totally broken loose inside and was sliding around. Ran great until the pieces slid back to block the exhaust from exiting. This one was hard to diagnose because it ran fine just sitting, but driving for a few miles or uphill would cause it. Once you stopped it would run fine again.

Another car just ran like crap most of the time until I pulled the catalytic converter off and basically dumped the dust and small pieces out of it.
what i was thinking.

had one do that on my truck, it run fine at low rpm but step on it and it would get loud and go no where.

Question

My VX is acting just like you have described.

Except I noticed that if I am going a steady speed, about 60mph and
then let go of the gas then quickly reapply, it also does it then.

It beats the hell out of me whats wrong.

Here is what I have tried.
Replaced Spark Plugs, Distributor, Fuel Filter, Air Filter and totally
hallowed out the whole cat converter (shhh).

Also I have tried all sorts Fuel Injector cleaners and Gas Stabilizer,
but nothing seems to work.

Oh yeah I also took off the gas tank and took a look inside to see
if maybe there was some gas contaminants or something off the
wall like that in there but nope it was clean as a whistle inside the tank.

I have always used full synthetic 10W30 for my oil.
This VX has done 3 trips of 4,500miles straight highway with this problem but I want it fixed.

Tried a compression check? Bad valve or cylinder?

Did you ever figure out what this problem is? I just picked up a 1995 VX and it is doing this exact same thing. It actually has decent torque at low rpm when it doesn't bog. Im sure this is not good for my MPG.

I never figured out what was causing the problem. I am still driving around with it, if that means anything good.

I tried a few things to no avail. However, unplugging the O2 sensor clears it right up. Only problem is, that will kill gas mileage. With the O2 sensor unplugged, I'm guessing that it may also deactivate the VTEC-E system which allows the ultra lean 20:1 A/F ratio. I'm going to plug the O2 sensor back in and unplug the VTEC solenoid and see what happens. If I get the same result, then there must be some malfunction in the VTEC-E system. If not, the O2 sensor must be bad.
