So basically, if you need more airflow for your engine and don't want to retrofit a larger airbox to accommodate a larger paper filter, then you can use oiled filters, but only if you accept that you're allowing significantly more gunk in your engine and need to clean the filter regularly to maintain peak performance. Myself, I'm sticking with paper!

I read a test years ago by a heavy equipment mining company. they monitored everything down to oil analysis and precisely the amount of operational time each engine had when it had to be overhauled. Large Diesel engines. Turns out the aftermarket oiled air filters were killing engines at something like twice the rate of factory filters (won't mention brand). When you spend 50+k on a rebuild having your engines die in half the hours is a huge unnecessary expense.
I have never used personally or advocated the use of anything but OEM or equivalent filters since reading of that test. My Insight had one when I got it and the 02 sensor died at 36k miles. I would be willing to bet the over oiled filter was the cause of the bad 02 sensor.

Mech

I've given up. People that make the poor decision to purchase a Jeep likely don't have the mental faculties to consider a well reasoned argument about fuel efficiency.
I argued that higher altitudes should increase fuel economy, and that cold air intakes will slightly reduce economy. It's here if you want to see a troglodyte discussion.

Holy Hanna, I see what you mean.
And nothing makes posters look like a bunch of rubes as quickly and thoroughly as poor spelling and grammar, right? Right?!?
