Dayum! Calculated actual fe from yesterday morning's fillup (done after leg 2) ... over 68mpg!! If I use the miles recorded by the scangauge ( which matches better with my GPS than my odo ) then I get 69.5mpg! Truly incredible!
I think the sg is off because I'm using pure dinodiesel rather than B20. SG used to be much more accurate at home.

This is the easiest and cheapest way to see that info, mount them on the A-pillars.

This is a big aid in knowing when you can either start a or end a coast.

Under certain conditions, the hybrids can get amazing fe... way more than I could ever get! But I think for the long, 65 - 70 mph, AC on, cruise control on kind of drive, its hard to beat the vw diesel. Admittedly, I do some eo(n)c on the longer downhills, and I try to stay (a safe distance) behind larger vehicles (anything that disrupts the air in front of me helps), but overall it's relatively easy to get the fe I'm getting.

Going to be heading back starting tomorrow... taking the central route back, which (according to the elevation profile) is gradually gaining altitude for about the first 1000 miles. So I don't expect to get quite as good fe as I did on the eastward leg 2.

Leg 1 (of 2 westward legs) yielded ~63mpg over 936 miles at an average speed of 65mph. Elevation change is about 5,700 ft increase from the starting point. No AC was used since outdoor temps were pretty cool. The first ~3 hours were in light to very heavy rain, as it seemed like the storm cell was following the same route I was. Lightning, thunder, and some periods of incredibly heavy rain, but thankfully no hail or other frozen stuff.
Cd -
I currently have a "home depot" front air dam and some additional covering over the front wheel hub caps. Not much. I tried a rear belly pan, but didn't put it on very well so it came off on the first day (see an earlier post in this thread for more details). otherwise, I started out with a grill block (as shown on the first post).
